INFO:

The less poachy, super fast Eto'o days of yesteryear.

Eto'o scored over 100 goals in five seasons with FC Barcelona, and is also the record holder in number of appearances by an African player in La Liga. In 2010, he became the first player to win two European Continental Trebles following his back-to-back achievements with Barcelona and Internazionale. He is the second player to have ever scored in two separate UEFA Champions League finals and the fourth player, after Marcel Desailly, Paulo Sousa and Gerard Piqué, to have won the UEFA Champions League two years in a row with different teams. He is also as of 22 May 2010, the most decorated African player of all time.

Eto'o is well known for his Work rate, aggression, immense speed and an eye for goal from any position.

More agile than Vela, Modric, Benayoun, Pienaar, Nasri, Joe Cole @ Quaresma! Finally, and I myself am not sure here, but would say no if forced to choose... is/was his Technique really above Viduka/Drogba's? Because I believe they certainly used theirs more.

I know Eto'os a world class forward, but come on. :P

Well most of these stats aren't mine to be honest. :D

Dropped Stamina by three points. I can see why Del gave him such a high value though, Eto'o was conditioned like an olympic athlete in those days Constantly making attacking runs, hardly getting tired. Remember Johnson has higher mentality which directly relates to stamina as well.

Dropped agility by one, imo he was very agile few years ago just as much as the players like Steven Pienaar and Ji Sung Park etc so i think is fair. Plus I believe Agility is influenced by height slightly and Eto'o is quite a bit taller than the players you compared him with.

Dropped dribble accuracy by one, like Uzair said in the present day thread, he was more composed on the ball than he was today and had proper dribbling skills - taking players on with skill rather than pace and getting out of tight situations with skill. But your right id rate him a tad lower than the players you compared him two.

I disagree with lowering dribble speed, there’s nothing to suggest why he was slower than Walcott and Wright Phillips on the ball when he was at his free flowing speedy best ,
i mean..

Technique's fine imo it’s what he currently has, Drogbas first touch is good I wouldn’t say its superior id rate them about the same. Oh and Viduka being rated that low is pretty laughable.

That's a single run.

50 yards in 8 seconds from Ruud Van Nistelrooij. Here he uses almost all of his pace whilst on the ball, which usually would make you think he deserves a super high DS, but it wasn't always that he used his pace to the maximum when dribbling, is it? It was one dribble.

If I am out numbered on DS then fine, but it is not as if he managed that level of speed and control on every dribble is it? :P

i've gotta say, if there is 1 video on utube that is helping a player being overated, that's the one of eto'o sprinting along the side line. It's like people get so amazed by this that they forget what they have seen through the years.
Eto'o was damn fast, no doubt, but dribble speed represents the ability to dribble while running, and in these videos (both RVN and eto'o) the player has almost no control over the ball, he's just kicking it foward and running as fast as he can. It's not like the defender had to go for a foul to stop eto'o, he didn't need to because although he was running much faster than the defender he doesn't show the ability to control the ball and change directions while running at full speed.
And 1 other thing: of course eto'o could be fast, he still is, but he wouldn't show this speed on the ball game after game.
So, having said this i think anything over 90 is overated !

For anyone who still doesn't understand what P1rha said, that's basically what he means. See the complete control the ball is under and the insane DS. (Eto'o was straining to control the ball)

So DS has to come down to 90 and probably agression can be a bit higher... I remember how they like to attack... always in his head was attack always. Forward, forward... 2 points more at least.

My question is... why he is 10 points under the actual Rooney in Mentality? He was fighting for every single ball, making and incredible pressure, the key of this Barça's... I'm not saying deeper... not, sure that you will say something about defence, I'm saying about movility and less effect of the tiring. The actual Eto'o has the same problem. He is totally bad ratted on this stat.

I guess you mean current and this one? Well, Eto'o lost a big amount of pace after his serious knee injury(about 2007?) and he never was the same in these aspect.

He transfered from Barca. Then suddenly every Barca fan said that he "sucked", and he got an not deserved downgrade based on 6 medicore months last season.

Agree, he just did not get his best form. Look at this season, he gets much better.
BTW, Torres was not lowered so much after his injury.

Not in comparision to players like Henry, Walcott, Alvarez,Crusat, Ronaldo

Faster then all of them probably but he is literally rated 4 red points and more over some of them.

I must be one of the few guys that have been arguing for ages that the 2005-2006 Eto'o deserves a red value in terms of AGILITY. The guy moved his feet so god damn quickly... actually that was one of his main weapons and the reason why he managed to beat most of the opposing defenders.

As for his speed stats, I agree they're a bit overrated. He was an impressive sprinter, but not that much.
