Postby PES Stats Database » 2008 Dec 13, 18:35

Name: Ronald Koeman

Nickname: "Tintin"

Club: FC Barcelona

INFO:

Spoiler: show
Ronald Koeman was well-known as the greatest scoring defender in history of the game with 225 goals in 647 matches which is an all-time world record. This record could be as good as a lot of strikers who played as the same level as him. Koeman scored not less than 10 goals in a season almost every years for his career. Most of his goals were a result of him being a free-kick specialist, his powerful and rocket long shooting and penalty taking. He not only proving impressive scoring quality but he was great as a sweeper with intelligent play ensured an organized defense and provided excellent distribution from the back, always generated precision passing. His leadership ability enabled him to excel as captain of Holland in 1994 World Cup final. Aside from Barcelona, he played for all three big of Holland like Ajax, PSV and Feyenood. Koeman played along with "Three Tiger Soldiers" like Gullit, Rijkaard and Van Basten and being overshadowed by them. Koeman however was known for his low speed which made him a hard time to catch high-speed attackers. In 1988, He was voted 5th in Ballon D’or.

In total Ronald Koeman scored 193 league goals in 503 matches (ahead of Daniel Passarella who netted 134 goals in 451 matches) during his career, more than any other defender in the history of football.

In the 91/92 season he scored 16 goals in La Liga and the CL finals winning goal.

Yeah, but there's no need for 93 swerve, he relied mostly on power and accuracy.

I don´t know, he was pretty accurate, but as you say, swerve it´s not neccesarely related to FKA, although it sure helps. I think he should never be under 88 in that area...

What i mean is that his FKs didn't had much swerve, they were accurate and powerfull, but he didn't bent them much.
And he was a specialist from long range, because when he had a chance from a close range he wouldn't try to hit it over the wall, he would look for a hole or hit a screamer into the uncovered space, wich is quite efective if the keeper is no more than decent.
Rating him at 88 will put him 2 points behind Simão, and i'm shure that Simão Sabrosa puts more curl in his FKs than Koeman did. I'd suggest something arround 85, 1 point below Xavi, wich is not a true FK specialist but can bend them nicely.

He peferred to dip the ball rather than curl it ala Cristiano Ronaldo I do remember him bending one superbly round the wall in the cup winners cup final against Man Utd though. I do think it is harder to curl freekicks with the run up freekick style as well. Id also agree to a 86-88 value.

I think that SPS and LPS should be orange, he packed plenty of power into his passes very much like Steven Gerrard, 70 for agility looks a bit harsh.

I play him with almost default stats and his passing seems too accurate but speed is ok, i think both LPA and LPS r red, so a raise to orange in both is ok with me, maybe speed could even reach red. About the curling i raised it to 83 with FKA 93 (i think) and he's very efective, he's my FK taker in barça and neetherlands NT. The thing is that a FK taker with red SP and decent FK stats is really dangerous from diferent ranges. But i'm a FK master.
Also his shots from range were almost always on target, he deserves better acuracy.

Long Pass Accuracy: 92
Long Pass Speed: 95
Shot Accuracy: 82
Free Kick Accuracy: 94
Curling: 85

He was perhaps also a tad slower. 73-74 for TS?
I have returned to the Classics section after a longer break. I am currently working on a list of Danish players from the 90s.

Hi! I'm a true fan of FC Barcelona and I believe that Ronald Koeman has to provide greater free kick accuracy. It is the top scoring defense in history and a real master . Koeman scored more goals than Beckenbauer and almost double that Passarella

Koeman: 225 goals
Beckenbauer: 81 goals
Passarella: 134 goals

An authentic GOD of Free Kicks

Koeman FOREVER !!

But his combination of SP and FKA make him unstopable, u don't have to do the hardest part that is going over the ball and dip back to goal.

75 defence for Koeman?? Then he will be worse in defending than most Eredivisie defenders!
Konami got it all wrong btw. I believe his defence was 70 in the last few pes games.
85 defence seems to be just fine.

Don't ever use "Konami stats" as an argue in this forum! :)
