Nickname: "Bobo"

Club: Atlético de Madrid

EXPLANATIONS:

Fast, poachy, absolutely lethal in front of goal when given enough space. A beast, really, probably the best 'classic 9' I had the chance to witness in the 90s. 1997/98 was his Atlético de Madrid season, he arrived at a club filled with great but inconsistant players (Juninho Paulista, Lardín), with the key players of the past 'double' (spanish league + cup) of 1995/96 already aging and in clear decline (Caminero, Pantic, Kiko, Futre). Vieri didn't even have a real continuity of play, since between small injuries and cards he could only play 24 league matches... in which he scored 24 goals, becoming topscorer of the league. After that he went to the World Cup and also scored 5 goals in 5 matches. That said, his most iconic goal that season was against Paok Salonica in the UEFA Cup.

Despite the injuries, the man was physically at his prime: great body strenght (although he probably became even bulkier and stronger in later years), a very nice speed over long distances, both on and off the ball... he was also quite a poacher, able to react quickly to through passes, and possesed the pace and body strenght to keep defenders at bay in counter-attacking runs. In terms of shooting he was a great placer and could smash the ball certainly hard, although I haven't found his ST as impressive as I thought it was (still good, but not to deserve oranges IMO). Also a huge threat on the air, specially due to his magnificent heading ability, although to be honest his leap didn't seem to be more than just good. In terms of positional sense and sharpness when roaming the opposition area he was absolutely lethal... you gave him a clear chance and it was a goal.

these stats really don't make him the best player of all time. instead of coming out with a comment like that, some constructive critcism would be much welcomed.

maybe his SA could come down 2-3 points.

Yeah because these stats make him a much better all-rounder than the likes of Pele,Puskas and Maradona :?. I don't think he was this fast tbh he had decent speed once he got going but lacked acceleration(consider his high response also) maybe

Top Speed: 84
Acceleration: 79

perhaps an ever so slight decrease in shot accuracy 92 perhaps?

i dunno. he also seemed pretty quick to get away from defenders. i don't think it should be a green figure but taking into account response maybe 82???

i agree with the SA decrease. he had more accuracy with his head than his feet. which also brings me to say maybe his heading could come up 1 or 2 points. i think he's scored the most headers in Serie A or someting like that. there was some discussion about this in the old thread.

Ahh, can't say I agree with that.. :P Over all - very good stats imo, reflect bobo well – was possibly best CF in Europe at the time, no drastic change needed here.

I dunno was he this monstrously strong? ( more than Samba etc) the combination of speed and balance makes him footballs equivalence to:

His speed is a touch too high, I'll give you that, but his balance is fine, consider how much taller and heavier Samba is, he'll still win most of the physical battles.

This stats r imensly overated, if i was to compare stat by stat with the modern strikers we have now many people would agree he is overated. This stats may not put him over Pelé, but they put him over any CF we have today, stronger than Drogba, Julio Batista and Ibra, more accurate than Milito, Villa, Torres, DelPiero, Henry or Forlán, better header than Ballack, Larsson, Cahill or Trezeguet, better positioning than Toni, Gilardino, Milito and Klose (by far btw)... a complete nonsense the sum of all these stats. That's why i won't even bother to sugest any numbers.

But there is one thing that could go up wich is mentality, i don't think it was bad by any means, he was a winner.

oh c'mon! with a rant like that you've got to suggest some numbers. remember, we're all trying to help each other on this forum ;)

i'd actually like to suggest another revision of his shooting stats:
i think his SA should come down to 90 and SP down to 88. my reasoning? well i have said before tht he was more accurate with his head than his feet and as seen as i have no problem with his heading stat, i feel his SA should come down. he struck me as a player who used his feet to score spectacular goals using ST. this would put himon par with Fowler, Rivaldo etc. whether that's too low is for youse to decide.
SP is simple enough - he didn't strike it like an orange man.

also curling to go up a few points. he new how to curl the ball with good effect.

Technique and his short passing stats are too high, he doesn't deserve red ST either.

BB 97? He was never this stronger than Shearer (94). Imo it's more like 95 at the most.
