MOTION STYLE:

Spoiler: show
A Norwegian former U-21 International of Pakistani origin who spent the big majority of his career at Vålerenga after coming through their academy, in addition to spending just six months on-loan in the Norwegian Second Division in late 2013.
Zahid's great form at Vålerenga attracted interest from abroad and most notably Manchester City, however he saw a move to the Citizens collapsing on January 2017 Transfer Deadline-Day.
However, in the following Summer's Transfer Deadline-Day he successfully moved to APOEL Nicosia in Cyprus on a cut-priced deal of a fee of just €500,000, signing a four-year contract and became the first player of Pakistani origin to feature in the Champions League, after playing against Real Madrid in the Santiago Bernabeu as a substitute.
Primarily an Attacking-Midfield player, Zahid became known as a versatile attacking and midfield player after solid performances for Vålerenga both at Left-Wing as well as up-front, in addition to Attacking-Midfield. After a first couple of of uninspiring performances for APOEL at Right-Wing, because of lack of options, he became a first-eleven regular at Attacking and Central-Midfield, impressing not only because of his technical-ability, but also mainly because of his consistency, work-ethic, defensive-contribution, finishing-ability, as well as attacking movement in the box, as a Shadow-Striker.

Provided the most assists in the world until today this Season, 17 assists and on top of that 9 goals as well, in all Competitions so far.

His signing came out of the blue on transfer deadline day this Summer for just 500 thousand euros from Valerenga, but the way he is playing right now, some club will surely activate his 4 million euros buy-out clause next Summer, as his current value is probably even more than that. In fact, Medipol Başakşehir offered 3 millions this January for him, but APOEL rejected unless they pay the full 4 millions of the release-clasue, something which they didn't do, after signing Arda Turan.

Zahid started playing for APOEL mainly as a Winger at first, mainly Right-Wing but also sometimes on the Left, because of injuries and lack of options, without great results. When he moved to Attacking/Central Midfield since early November however, he became APOEL's most consistent and best performing player since then. Still occasionally playing as a Winger sometimes, of course.

His playing-style is mainly "pass-and-move" finding pockets of spaces in-between the lines and breaking-down defences, him and Ebecilio are great at this. He is almost always really active in the game, making himself available for passes, chasing players, and attackingly being in good and dangerous positions. His stamina is also really good for an Attacking-Midfielder, and it is his best asset defensively, but he can also steal the ball decently well. However, he needs to work on his marking and body-strength if he wants to be played as a Central/Defensive-Midfielder more often and at a more difficult League, than Cyprus.

He is not the best dribbler nor the most willing player to dribble over long distances for his position, but his good close ball-control and great overall technique, in combination with his agility which is one of his biggest assets, makes him extremely difficult to disposes when having the ball at his feet. His through-passes and corner-kicks are his two biggest sources of assists by far, but his overall passing-ability is generally good. On top of that, his Shooting is quality as well, including long-distance shooting but also beautiful bending goals just inside or outside the penalty area. He find himself in really good positions in the box, but his close-range finishing is probably the only area of his shooting that can do with some improvement in the future.

I think that his current Set is probably slightly undervalued given his great performances this Season, but let's just wait until the end of the Season, if he can keep up with those top-class levels. I can really see some top potential in him, because not only does he have the necessary quality, but he is also a team-player and very mature as well! Here are some of his best moments this Season:

He had been magnificent for APOEL this Season until the end of the regular Season, at approximately mid-late February.
Then his form dropped a bit after the Play-Offs had started, because he had been playing continuously for one and a half year in Norway and Cyprus without a break! As a result, he became more of a super-sub for the Play-Offs' matches, especially towards the end of the Season.
But there is no doubt that with 10 goals and 19 or something assists to his name this Season, he is currently one of the players with the most quality in the League of Cyprus, and he is such a relatively young player as well... He has made his debut for the senior Norway National Team last week at a friendly. Impressively, he has not missed even a single game with injury this Season, despite playing continuously as a starter for more than one and a half year now!
He has good dribbling technique, but honestly he is much more effective and suited at playing one-touch passes. He might be very good technically, but when dribbling he sometimes suffers from "over-possession" of the ball, slows-down his team's game, while he usually speeds it up when playing quick one-touch "one-two" passes.
His current Set is really good, and the only things that I would change is a slight upgrade on long-passing, dribbling accuracy and technique, and a slight downgrade on dribbling speed to reflect what is written above. I would not add him "one-touch passing", because even though he has been really effective at it, he doesn't always play like that. On the other hand, I would add "weighted passing". Suggested Changes:
Spoiler: show
Dribble Accuracy: 81 (+2)
Dribble Speed: 79 (-1)
Long Pass Accuracy: 76 (+1)
Long Pass Speed: 76 (+1)
Technique: 80 (+1)
ADD- S19 - Weighted Pass

Last Season he had been a monster for APOEL in his first year at the club, but this Season he is slightly below those high standards.
Still their most creative player, one of their not too many players actually who tries to play great passing-game football in addition to coming "big" to win matches for them.
However, he is still not as fantastic as last Season. The fact that APOEL sold Ebecilio in the Summer negatively affected Zahid's performances and there is no doubt about that. Him and Ebecilio were playing some wonderful stuff last Season when they were in-form, "pass-and-move" stuff having great understanding between them, as they were both players who played in a similar way.
Zahid this Season he had been actually playing in his favourite Attacking-Midfield position much more frequently than last Season, when he played a lot on the Wing, especially Right-Wing, but nevertheless his performances are not so great.
He started the Pre-Season ill missing the first few qualifiers which costed his team, then came back and for a while he wasn't up to the standards he used to be last Season, but still playing well in relation to the other players. Only just recently he has started reaching some form which is similar to the one which used to be a norm for him last Season. In addition to Attacking-Midfield he has also played as Central-Midfielder again this Season like at parts of last Season as well. I don't believe he has played on the Wings this Season, in contrast to last Season.
I am still sticking with what I have suggested for his Set last Season. The only real thing I view differently in him right now is being slightly slower over distance without the ball. Still pretty quick but not as high as his current Set. Suggested Updates:
Spoiler: show
Top Speed: 78 (-3)
Acceleration: 79 (-3)
Dribble Accuracy: 81 (+2)
Dribble Speed: 79 (-1)
Long Pass Accuracy: 76 (+1)
Technique: 80 (+1)
ADD- S19 - Weighted Pass

On-loan at _gre Panathinaikos from _cyp APOEL Nicosia for the Season, with 1.6million euros buying-option.

It's weird that they really easily let go of one of their most quality players, in a similar way they did with Ebecilio last Season. Zahid had an amazing 1st Season at APOEL, and then his 2nd Season wasn't as good as the 1st one, but still pretty good I would say. Technically and quality-wise he is one of the top APOEL players of the last two Season, and more importantly their only out and out play-maker of their squad. Okay, Matic a CM can play in that role, the same with DeVincenti a SS who is the player preferred to play in that role at the moment, but none of them are as natural play-makers as Zahid.

Mazing& Incisive- Run cards need to be removed. Form most probably to drop to 4.

Return to “Panathinaikos A.O.”
