Called "the bird'' for they way he took off from the ground Oikonomopoulos was the goalkeeper of Panathinaikos from 1963 to 1976.
He was known for his great reflexes and the masterfull use of his body to make spectacular diving saves and reach shots from difficult angles, not the best at handling the ball though and that lead to a few blunders. One of the team's big personalities he also set the record for most minutes without conceeding a goal in the Greek championship at 1088' that stands till this day. He feautred in Pao's 1971 european campain ofcourse as the starting keeper, he did so wearing the shirt of legendary Σpanish keeper Jose Angel Iribar which he got from him in a national team game between the two nations in 1970.
