Thank God someone did Costacurta´s real stats, in the Italian Classic team his skills are not better than any average defense player, when he is one of Milan´s best defenders of all times...

He´s considered, along with Maldini and Baresi, an icon for the rossoneros (Milan fans). He stayed in AC Milan for over 20 years, he´s also known as a mentor of Paolo Maldini, arguably the best defender of all times.

He won 5 Champions Leagues, 7 Italian Leagues, 5 Italian Super Cups, 1 Italian Cup, 2 Inter-continental Cups as well as 2 European Supercups, been always a key player in defense, along with players like Maldini, Baresi, Tassoti, Stam, Cafú, etc...

I think this and a lot more defines him as a GREAT defender.

His RES is too high, he dosen't deserve 95, I would say max 93

Response 95 and defense 93 ? Right... Costacurta was a great defender, although he's going to be remembered a notch higher than deserved because of the other defenders he played with (Baresi, Maldini, Cannavarro, Tassoti, Nesta) and all the titles they won. He was, more than anything, a versatile and uncompromising defender with the kind of understanding with his teamates that can only exist after years playing together.
From what i remember, he was never close to Maldini's or Baresi's level in terms of defensive security. In fact i don't think he was any better than someone like Samuel or Ricardo Carvalho. Then you have another great defender, Ciro Ferrara, with defence 91 and response 88, is it me or the diference is too high?

I think DEF @90 and RES @91 is reasonable for him... as I remember but those number in first post are way too high, I see Ferrara slightly better in pure Defensive acts but he was better than Ciro in sense of reading he situations...Plus he wasn't the strongest defender but BB can go up to 84 IMO...

I wouldn't raise his BB, he was fairly weak. Seems to me like many CBs get their BB values just because they are CBs. Like Ronaldo and Carvalho habe the same BB value but Ronaldo is obviously stronger. Besides he was a clean defender most times, unlike Ciro.

enough people have said it and i agree with them: he's very overrated, particularly in defense and response. Like jmvp said, he wasn't better than ferrara for example, who stands at defence 91 and response 88, he just got his abilities hyped up because he was lucky to play with the likes of baresi and maldini. crisfar's sugests defence 90/response 91 but i would sugest lowering his defence a bit further to 88 and response 91, he was a clean tackler much more than a defensive wall

Updated Def 93>91 Response: 95>93

PES 2010/11 Cards Growth type def/att awareness card and added *sliding

I Prefer Crisfar's valuation to be honest, tackling wise he was easily above players like Terry and Vidic nowadays , who will still fit the the 'defensive wall' mould better especially with their superior balance. Actually both might be both better positioning wise at times than Billy but their tackling both lets them down from being 90+ as they can be pretty reckless and conced alot of fouls while Costacurta was a very clean crisp tackler of the ball by comparison. Looking at classic ladders id say he should be rated slightly higher than Collovati, Ferri and Vierchowood in def also .

Response should be on the cusp of god region, he was superb at reading situations and responding to loose balls and covering for tea-mates in for those last ditch slide tackles, especially seeing as he wasnt the fastest (although these speed stats might underrate him slightly) not quite at prime Nesta level T 95 but 93 should suffice. I might lower it further if maybe *covering was added

Yeah it's a garbage set. It's basically what he retired with I think. Has nothing to do with his real ability, which was immense.

When I was young I used to name myself Costacorta when I do something good in defence and all of my freinds too . When we wanted to say that someone is good defender we name him costacorta .
His def can be at least 96 or 97.
BB can be 86 . He was not that strong defender but also not so weak like 82 .
STA can be 90 , I remeber a match for him when he was may 40 or 39 years old when he faced etto'o in the last minutes one on one and he could stopping him by sliding .
Speed and ACC can be 82 and 84 he played as SB .
RES 90
MEN 95
TMW 85
And 4 def stars

Theres no sense in anything you say. He was not a strong defender, but not so weak like 82? Give him 86? Madness. Hes not strong at all, it was not a part of his game at all really, he relied on his intelligence, not force. 90 stamina because he made a slide tackle in the last min? Please read around the site and how things work before wasting both yours and our time with these insane suggestions.

The set isn't bad, it won't be a perfect representation but it'll represent him well enough. Just needs a higher def, I always thought he was probably over Maldini in that regard, but it's been a long time. Response is in old definition of "game reading" So obviously a big drop in that, TW and ment aren't far off the mark so probably can stay on current values.
