Oleg Blokhin | 1973-1975

Postby PES Stats Database » 2008 Dec 11, 00:27

Club: FC Dynamo Kyiv

Nickname: "The Cosmonaut of the Football Horizon" | "Царос" ("Tzar") | "Ukrainian arrow"

Growth type: Early/Lasting

INFO:

Oleg Blokhin is considered by many as the greatest Soviet Union footballers of all-time if you don't include Lev Yashin who was a goalkeeper. He was a deep-lying forward with sprinter’s speed, technically excellent, and with exceptional work rate. Blokhin was also noted for his professional mind and ambition. Although he holds the record all-time top scorer of Soviet Union national team, his performance in the World Cup wasn't so impressive as he scored just a goal per tournament. Especially, His speed deteriorated in the 1986 World Cup. It was Igor Belanov who surprised the world scoring many goals instead of him. He also won second place Soviet footballer of the year 4 times in 1977, 1978, 1980 and 1981, was voted 5th European Footballer of The Year in 1981.

HONOURS:

Dynamo Kiev

* European Footballer of the Year: Winner in 1975, 5th in 1981, 19th in 1974 and 1976
* Soviet Footballer of the Year: 1973, 1974, 1975
* Ukrainian Footballer of the Year: 1972, 1973, 1974, 1975, 1976, 1977, 1978, 1980, 1981
* Soviet Top League top scorer: 1972, 1973, 1974, 1975, 1977
* Soviet Top League All-Time Goals and Appearances Leader
* UEFA Cup Winners' Cup 1985-86 top scorer
* European Cup 1986-87 second place on top scorers list
* USSR national football team All-Time Goals and Caps Leader

I reckon he is quite underrated here, he is seen by many as one of the alltime greats, ranked higher than some of the players who are recieving better stats on this site.
For me his dribblig and technique should be put up into orange, i thought he was very good in this area. Thats all.

His MEN could be increased. He took Dynamo on his shoulders many times and gave his best often in the pitch. Maybe a 80?

Some sources refer to him as Oleh Blokhin and others as Oleg Blokhin. Both are correct?

First of all, I changed era to 1972-1975. 100 goals in 184 games (0.54 goals per game in total, with more than 20 per season, considering club+NT), and that's the reason I gave him 90. It represents very well his consistency, high amount of goals and participation in offensive phase.
From what I've seen, he's an intelligent player who exploits speed in his favor. He did not defend much, and was rather lazy in this aspect, although from time to time he collaborated in the recovery of the ball, particularly to Lovchev playing for the national team. For this reason, I gave it a value of 40.

Clearly, his function was to run forward, and that he did very well, either taking advantage of the empty spaces of the court or creating them by himself based on his great speed with or without the ball. He was not a strong player, but he was able to withstand lunges or tackles. Technically he was a great dribbler, able to run long distances with the ball stuck to the foot, and in that aspect is similar to players like Brian Laudrup or Robben. His passing skills were average, but good enough to find support and make very few mistakes in the offensive association. I saw the ladder and compared Blokhin with Claudio López, Alexis Sánchez and Gareth Bale and were pretty alikes in this matter.

I selected some footage, specially to show his impressive dribble, speed and agility.

Good set, just two things: acceleration is missing, and i wonder if he needs such high agility?

I deleted Acceleration by mistake :lol:
It could be 95, just as his current set.

About Agility, I considered that value because of his high mobility in tight spaces and capability of pass through opponents. If we see the ladder, 90 seems a fair value (Blokhin is on par with Claudio López, Robben, Jesús Navas, etc.).
