Stéphane Guivarc'h l 1997-1998

Postby PES Stats Database » 2009 Dec 10, 23:06

Club: AJ Auxerre

INFO:

Spoiler: show
He was Ligue 1 top scorer that year, with 21 goals. That was the same year he played for France NT and got crowned World Champion, along with a star packed team, with players such as Zidane, Thuram, Karembeu, Petit, Deschamps and Co. leading the succesfull quest.

Despite all the critics he got, he was a rather decent striker, with good positional sense, aerial game and scoring abilities (he was also ligue, 96-97, top scorer with 22 goals) altough with France NT he only scored once in 14 games.

He's brief adventure abroad (specifically to Newcastle Utd) earned him the unwanted reputation of "the worse strikers to ever play in the
Premier League", as the Daily Mail labeled him, to what he replied with a classy "It is truly a crap newspaper".

Thanks for this one Fevernova, I really enjoy the Ligue 1 this years, I'm a fan of Nantes and Auxerre, and this guy is a good one of the last years in Auxerre. When he goes to the Premier League, he doesn't adapt to that league, but from there to say that this guy is the worst striker that plays in the Premier League, for me it's a big lie.
In his best season Guivarc'h score 21 goals in Ligue 1, 10 goals in Intertoto's Cup, 7 goals in UEFA's Cup and 7 goals in Coupe de France, pretty good for any striker.
Talking about stats IMO his attack could go up like two points, his positional sense was one of his main weapons and I find 83 a bit underrated for a good striker. I found 85 a more proper value.
Another stat that I would tweak is his header, he was a really good header with a good jump, I suggest to raise both to something like header 83 and jump 84. His placement of the ball is on the a bit over the average, not the 80/82 represents.

hi Fevernova thanks for this one i totally agree with Xyder ( a good jump and good positioning ) i know him very well he had also a very good hit (he scored several goals of 35 m when he played for Guingamp in 2nd division at least 85 ..
he was also an hard worker he pressed a lot in first curtain ( too much ) with a good mental .......not a great technician that's right but he surely did not deserve this prize awarded by the daily mail ( my best friend is breton :he said often that Guivarch is the only evidence of the existence of god  ) i'll try to found a video of him .... soon Fevernova...thanks

Oh, wicked. I scored my first ISS '98 goal with him. The first Konami footie game I owned.

I give him an update, I had some notes took from the games I watched with France NT during the 1998WC, that's not perfect but at least better, and was done with Konami set as base.

Don't you think you've been a bit harsh with him adrien? He was the main CF of Frances team during the 1998 tournament, but 20 years old Trezeguet of 1998 overshadows him in absolutely every aspect.

I don't think I was harsh. He was a great scorer, but Trezeguet was still too young I guess to be a starter. Guivarch' had more experience. I don't know all the story with the NT and who was the challenger for the CF positions at that time, there was Anelka also. I just rate him like I think he is. He's not far over someone like Gameiro for example. Both scored one season on LIgue 1 more than 20 goals. Guivarch' never gone in a big club outside of France. I think he just had the good age at the good time with the good team to be a starter at the WC.

He was no genius but still slightly better than that, he used to take some free kicks for example, powerful ones.
As usual, Konami's set is underrated.
