FRAN González | 1999-2002

Postby PES Stats Database » 2009 Aug 04, 02:34

Name: FRANcisco Javier González Pérez

Image

Club: Deportivo La Coruña

Francisco Javier González Pérez (born 14 July 1969 in Carreira, A Coruña, Galicia), aka Fran, is a former Spanish professional footballer.

He spent his entire career with Deportivo de La Coruña, as a left midfielder with skill and field vision.

Fran, one of the most notable players in Deportivo de La Coruña's history, arrived at the club in 1988, and made his first division debut on August 31, 1991, in a 2-1 loss at Valencia CF. Quickly established, he only missed eight league matches in his first five seasons combined, also netting on 24 occasions, while already being club captain.

In 1995-96, Real Madrid almost signed him, but Fran regretted leaving Deportivo and returned quickly. In 1999-2000, as Depor conquered its first top level league, injuries limited him to only 22 games, adding a goal in a 2-0 home success against Valencia, on March 12, 2000.

He retired at the end of the 2004-05 season, after 17 years at Deportivo, 14 in the first division, at the same time as Brazilian Mauro Silva. Fran amassed over 500 overall appearances for the Galician club.

Fran made his full Spanish national team debut on 27 January, 1993, in a friendly 1-1 draw against Mexico, in Las Palmas.

In total he earned 16 caps, participating at Euro 2000, where he played his last international, in a 4-3 win over Yugoslavia.

There´s been a lot of complaints about Fran stats by some users, saying that he is terribly underrated so we agreed to uptade him and this is what we´ve come up with (just with the intention of helping, nothing else):

First thing first, his height was not 1.75, but 1.79. He´s prime was in the eraly-mid 90´s, when the Team was nicknamed Super Depor and won their first Spanish Cup, and Barça took special interest in him, not in the 2000´s, when he was already declining. He is one of Depor´s best players off all times and these stats don´t suggest nothing near that.

I'd suggest expanding his era a little, maybe 1999 - 2002 or something similar (he maintained a similar level of play in his early 30s). Also please change his age to 30 (as he was 30 in 1999). The set overall seems fine to me, maybe just adding the Outside curve and 1-touch play cards would do, also lowering his DS a bit (about two points, to 82) and his stamina (one or two points, to 83 or 84). Fran developed quickly and impressed in the early 90's (I'd say he had his peak at the age of 23 - 26) but by 1999 he was in decline. It would be interesting to make a set for his best years (1992 - 1995)... maybe I'd get to it but first I'd also like to hear more opinions about the current set being ok.

Edit: Condition also could go down to 6, by 1999 he wasn't playing as much as in earlier days.

Edit2: Height/Weight should be set at 175/72. Source. It's a bit difficult to find an absolutely reliable source about this but I remember him pretty well and he certainly wasn't 179 cm tall.
