that tackle was fair, both Nicky Butt and Keegan agreed that it was a fair (if a wee bit strong) tackle and it was misfortune that caused it, rather like what happened to valencia's

Still he's a nasty piece of work nonetheless

I keep watching the tackle but the problem is, the more you watch it, the more you convince yourself it's bad, what with all the negative press he's recieved. As much as I hate Manchester City, I love tackling and I really don't think it was as bad as people are making out. If Ben Arfa had come out of the challenge un-injured, then it'd all of been forgotten and I reckon people would have been praising the tackle and going on about the good old days of tough tackling. I mean, Henrys tackle for Wolves was a lot worse as he ran a considerable distance before taking Gomez out whereas De Jong hardly took a massive run up and he definitly went in to win the ball and in fairness, he did win it. I think it's just unfortunate that Ben Arfa planted his foot where he did. Sure, it wasn't the best tackle, but if he'd not broken the guys leg nobody would have said the tackle was unfair or poorly timed or overly aggressive, he'd of been praised for it.

Thing is he's brilliant at breaking up the play. Having said that, I wonder if he's really as good at doing it as the stats make him perform in-game. He's actually one of mine and my mates favourite players in game because he's just fucking brilliant playing him front of the back four. Nothing gets past him! Makelele eat your heart out

Does he deserve SB and SMF?

What about condition 7?

I could easily see him +2 on Mentality. He's ever present charging around, and he never lets a good challenge go, whatever the circumstances, and he's not much different to Felipe Melo (although he could arguably be raised)

Vandeach wrote:No, his defence shouldn't go up, De Jong's play is not based on his positioning, he's very much a midfield-hound type player, and whilst his tackling may indicate a higher value, I wouldn't put him above or even par with Phil Neville in this area. Kovac's value is a different story altogether. In addition, his mentality is at the right value on an 86, he's hard-working yes, but I feel people are getting carried away by his performance against United, he doesn't go completely out of his way to close players down, and is more conservative, perhaps even more intelligent with his work-rate.

I suggested a raise in ment previously (and still agree to it) and this was the response at the time, which I can't say I actually agree with, what Shaun described applies to Milner not De Jong

Kovac could arguably go lower, he's really dumbfounded at times about where he is. However I disagree with Shaun here, Milner is indeed more intelligent with his workrate, he knows when to apply himself, while de Jong goes for the tackle. However I agree that he isn't as good positionally as Phil, yet he has more going for him in his tackling. These stats simply don't show it. But he is a lot more restrained in PES with his current value, no doubt.

With these he plays like Makelele, he just sits in front of the back four and intercepts passes for fun. He's a fucking treat to play with as hardly anything gets past him, the best holding Midifielder that I've used on the game with these stats and that's saying something!

hmm I used him in pes10 the psp version, and he was useless, not so much a midfield anchor man as just an 11th man...

Could be RES to be honest. It's not a crime for him to be rated on par with Donadel, a very intelligent footballer with a quick as a flash mind. He'd get to anything with these.

he is very good player and I agree with you that he is an intelligent player but sometimes he makes disasters on the field .

Does he ever play as a SMF or SB again? I think those position could be deleted. We don't want the AI to put him there right? ;)
