watch very very closely lol. it's such a slight deflection, but absolutely crucial. You can see the slightest of changes in the shots trajectory after de gea's fingernails brush it, and due to the position of where it hits the post, it was very likely going to be a goal post-in if not for that slightest of saves. that's why it's outstanding to me.

found a video of his saves against fulham, includes the riise save and ruiz save.

Spoiler: show

his parrying could improve, it's mostly why he should stay on 88 GKS, but his shotstopping ability is just superb. And due to what he's shown in his parrying ability, i have basically no doubts he's going to erase his error tendencies on parrying as he matures.
If you don't put effort into your post, i won't put effort in my response.

Not sure about defence, I get what your saying about being excellent when using different parts of his body to block shots but are we 100% sure that's the case when rating defence and its been tested? I usually associate high defence for really commanding keepers that like to constantly come off their line and dominate 1-1's and sometimes tackle at the strikers feet , while he usually stays quite static and goes for last second wonder save.

I guess you sort of explained a part of how DEF influence keepers. Saving 1-on-1s is mainly about the keeper being big and able to parry a shot away no matter how. Korinov already made a thread about this stat and how does it work when it comes to goalkeepers.

In complete agreement with this. But then again I don't favour continental keepers. That being said De Gea is one of the best shot stoppers in the league, his command of area and catches from deep balls, crosses, and corners however is not.

I do not understand the comparison, best if compared with the other goalkeepers of EPL
would be a much better global comparison :)

considering that United condeded about 1.5 times more shots than City makes most of these numbers obsolete.

just saw handful of him since he's at Manchester
So not really suggesting values but, when it comes at
coming out of the goal on crosses and dead balls, he's perhaps
one of the weaker keepers i saw in years in a top club...
in coming outs, misses handling....timing....epl people di agree?
I'm actually liking this 78 BB to represent this...

Nice gifs Vinnie! De Gea is amazing keeper... But how we can simulate his GODLIKE ability to save using his legs?

I have such a high expectations for this boy.. he really saves dead balls, insane reflexes..

there are keepers.. with slightly better responses, marginally sharper and better at those split instant headers and shots (JC or Frey come to mind), but overall, de gea covers so much of his net, he's probably the most skilled and talented at stopping any type of shots,... even that unstoppable ronaldo header, he almost saved that... that would have been the save of the year easily. the first save... you don't save those shots really. but he got a finger to it and saved it. same with the fulham shot. his goalkeeping skill... it's just so superb and he's so gifted in this.

VDS was rated at 90 by konami for around his later years.. i was watching videos of his saves for around that period, and i see that even de gea's parrying and handling... really is already about the same as elder van der sar was when he was rated about 90 gks. Young Casillas was rated 91 GKS and i see de gea comparable, Cech was punching everything and occaisonally made bad parries and weak punches, still always fluctuated from 90-95 (usually around 93) from konami, anti niemi (once of fulham) was rated 90 GKS and he had a similar style (aside the height difference). Waching some old clips he made even worse parrys then De Gea has, but was still overall an outstanding keeper, especially in his skill. It's mostly a skill factor. So i have to ask, how skilled is De Gea at keeping? I honestly think he has an amazing talent in shotstopping skill.

so are you saying he should have an increase on his goalkeeping skill??
I always thought him blocking coentrao shot with his leg is more to response thing...
