I see that these decades are becoming addicting, and the logos to represent them are getting weirder...XD

and Brezza just do not represent the 70's with a pic of sideburns or something. ;) :? XD

Any suggestions? For the sideback and defensive midfield positions for example? Maybe Falcao as midfielder?

Cabrini as a fullback, Scirea was a great libero, so if need be could be a DMF in a pinch, and Mølby as another CMF, Falcao would be good to as you mentioned. ;)

I think either Pfaff or Dasaev can take Shilton's place anytime :)

Preben Elkjær-Larsen was an out-and-out centre forward, not a midfielder ;)
I have returned to the Classics section after a longer break. I am currently working on a list of Danish players from the 90s.

You can still add three players to the first squad. Id Definitely add Socrates, but then its anyone's guess who the last two would be. Id like to throw Ossie Ardiles into the list of possible players as well ;)

I agree. The idol of young Maradona should not be forgotten.

Updated with new players and new look. Added "pretty" formation.

***

Changes...

1. Removed Dasayev from 23 Men Squad (and from complete team). Added Pfaff in 23 Men Squad.

2. Replaced Dasayev with Shilton in BEST XI.

3. Added Reserves.

***

Any thoughts about this update?

About the Gks, my favorite one of the whole bunch was Dasaev. You see, Zenga and Pfaff were Gks relying mainly on their astonishing reflexes and feral instincts while Shilton was a product of massive and determined training. Dasaev was more the positional keeper without any glimpse of show-of, old soviet school.

As this late genre of keeper is my favorite one, I would say (officially as for the balance of this all star selection in terms of GK variety) you should have Dasaev, Shilton and one of Pfaff or Zenga.

About the reserves, I believe Boniek should be in the 23 instead of Rossi. We all know the last games of 82 where Rossi "killed" Brasil and others, but as a career thing and as a overall quality as a player point of view, Boniek was more of a player than Rossi. And let's not forget the amazing campaign of Poland in that WC where they lost in the semi-final without having Boniek to play as he was suspended.

Well, for me Shilton is the best among those keepers. He had all the qualities of a great keeper and he could produce excellent saves. He somehow seemed one step ahead of the shooter. Second keeper in my opinion is Pfaff. His reactions are just amazing. Some of his saves looked out of this world. And for the third place, to tell the truth, I've thought about Zenga, Dasaev and Neville Southall (who seems a bit underrated here on PSD). I can go with any of those names for third keeper, I simply put Zenga because his saves were "flashier" then the other twos (but I can understand why you prefer Dasaev). So Shilton, Pfaff and somebody among those three keepers (in my opinion). We should probably wait for third or fourth opinion about keepers. ;)

As for Boniek is concerned, I would rather leave Rossi and switch Boniek and Butragueno. For me Rossi represents a phenomenon, mostly because after all the bad things and stories that followed him, he has managed to become a hero and lead Italy to WC title. Again, this is just my impression and I would also wait more opinions on this (but I do agree that Boniek should be in 23 Men Squad; it was hard to insert him right away in 23 Men Squad, until I read more confirmations for that thought of mine ;)).

P.S. I've also added Briegel to 23 Men Squad and moved Cabrini to Reserves. ;)

Great as Shilton was as the 80s started, it was Dasaev who was rated the best in the World. Though Shilton played up to the 1990 World Cup, he was way past his peak.

Dasaev, Pfaff. Schumacher and Van Breaukelen were the top 4 for their impact on Domestic and International football. Shilton belongs in the 70s...between 1977 and 1980 he was a beast before off the field distractions robbed him of his greatness. :) Shilton,s rep is based on his promise as a young goalie who replaced Banks and his longevity.

Zenga?

Replaced Zenga with Dasayev (due to more people requesting that). Zenga wasn't that laughable in my opinion (although he peaked during the end of 1980s and at the beginning of 1990s):

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Walter_Zenga

Zenga might be underrated by many, since he didn't won too many trophies and lacked a few more quality years, but you can't deny that in his prime he was a beast of a keeper. His nickname (Spider Man) tells a lot about him.

***

Switched Shilton and Fillol (although both keepers reached their peak at the end of 1970s and beginning of 1980s). Switched them because Shilton was better then Fillol (in my opinion) and because of his titles during 1977-1980 period (although Shilton will have to be a replacement for Zoff in 1970s All Stars). Dasayev is now first choice keeper in 1980s All Stars.
