I use the 442 at the moment with the following differences:

Young at left back
Cuellar at right back
Milner at right midfield

What do you think?

Correct, Young plays left back.
The 5-4-1 formation you mention is technically a 4-3-3, and it's correct aswell. They play a pretty deep line, and a lot of counter-attacking football.
And you got a typo there, it's Friedel, not Friedal. ;)

They are using 4-5-1 this season..

-------------Friedel-------------
Beye-Cuellar-Dunne-Shorey
-----------Reo-Coker-----------
-------Sidwell----Petrov-------
--Milner---------------Young--
----------Agbonlahor----------

I am not sure with defenders, only Cuellar played all four PL matches.
BTW It's quite interesting that they use Agbonlahor as a single forward, not a post player like Carew, Heskey or Harewood.

It's actually more like 4-3-3 than 4-5-1, cause Milner and Young play like WF more than SMF.

Agbonlahor is the first choice because they need his pace to perform quick counter-attack (see his goals vs Arsenal & Bolton last season), and he can also rotate with Milner so that's quite good.

For the defence, I think probably Davies and Dunne would be the first-choice, then Collins, then Cuellar. Warnock will be 1st choice instead of Shorey as well. To be honest their defence looks quite solid to me, they would still be a major force this season.

So...

Good formation Ken, but Petrov is the captain while Reo-Coker is Vc. Also I don't think the 3 men up front should have low defence arrows, they all do a fair amount of tracking back in their positions and also swap the attacking arrow and defence arrow with Beye & Warnock. Warnock is more attacking than him in the back four other than that everything is fine.

Good work, looks perfect, although one of the CMF's has more of an attacking role than the other.(Arrow forward)

Houllier has been using 4-4-1-1 with Ashley Young as second striker behind Heskey.

A team with so much dead weight, of course Houlier's job has been difficult!
The formation should be 4-2-3-1 with Ashley behind Bent.

-------------Friedel--------------
Walker----Collins-----Dunne-----Clark
-------Makoun-----------------
-----------Bradley/Reo-Coker/Petrov----
Downing/Albrighton-------Young-------Gabby/Downing
---------Bent---------------

Yep. That's what they've been playing with for most of the season. Bannan's been getting a run in midfield, but only due to Heskey being injuried.

Thanks Joak. Any ideas on the set-piece takers?
