The Football League Championship Thread

Postby BigStu » 2012 Jan 30, 20:35

First of all please don't post about players being in the wrong club, I well aware many arn't but I'm waiting till the transfer window closes and I'm gonna fix the teams in bulk, however once I finish which will be made clear in this thread you can post if I've made any errors or any addition loan deals or free transfers happen.

Secondly feel free to post stats for missing or indeed outdated players, serious suggestions only please, no stats based on a youtube video

Thanks

BigStu

Kristian Pedersen - Birmingham City

Shut down defender, poor on the ball, and limited offensively. He is a very proactive and engaged defender who has no real weaknesses in this side of the game and in my mind is the best defensive SB in the Championship with Shotton. Here is my set of him:

Pretty average CB that is most notable for his aerial prowess. He does a decent job for a lower level Championship side and does enough to let Adams and Jutkeiwicz do their thing on the other side of the pitch. Really nothing special, but helps fill out the team more, and he scored 7 goals on the season.

Peter Etebo - Stoke City

Really good dribbler that plays for the Nigeria NT. Aggressive player who has good athleticism but fails to make too big an impact when not on the break. Weaker than most mids and capable of being overrun, he does well when partnered with a more defensive minded midfielder, or even better in a midfield 3.

Very solid keeper for the team and could likely hold his own in the EPL. Actually got some nice long passing skills and ability to play a bit with his feet in comparison to most as well. Aggressive in closing down attackers and quick of his line.

Eberechi Eze - QPR
Very agile and has a good burst of speed, he is capable of picking up the ball and exploding past the first defender or two to cause disruptions on the counter as he often starts centrally and drifts wide to find space. However, he is very limited in terms of defensive abilities and passing to do much more than be a good on the ball threat. Not too dissimilar from Etebo, but with some differences. He slows down a lot compared to the speed he does have and then bursts past a defender or nimbly threads through multiple ones in a crowd. Adequate as a finisher as well. He has a good assortment of tricks at his disposal, however, a player that causes too big of an impact and will likely spend his career in mid-table Championship sides. Note, he is only 20 so there is still plenty of time to develop further, I personally just do not see the spark needed to make it at the top level. Still, would like to see him in the db as some think he's a good prospect (the archetype of a good dribbler with little end result to me). England u20 national and part of the u20 WC for them.

Liam Kelly - Reading (now QPR just signed him)
Very skilled on the ball, slow, a surprisingly sturdy defender, and very smart when moving in support of his teammates, Kelly is only really held back by physical limitations. He has a really nice long ball in his bag of tricks, good close control, and really good with layoffs and 1-2 passes. However, he is very weak, quite slow, and fairly slow on the dribble. He has the potential to develop into quite a nice player and rejected a call up from Ireland last year (he hopes for England but I won't go that far). He can play in the EPL I believe if he gets some more consistency and continues to learn to play faster than others.

Ben Brereton
Only 20, he was on loan at Blackburn this season from Nottingham Forest after having a very nice last two campaigns, but failed to get much action on the pitch, but had a clause in his loan activated and was transferred to Blackburn this summer. He seems to be transitioning more into a CF and was noticeably having growing pains he didn’t last year even. He takes touches backwards away from goal when deployed centrally and still learning the movements the position requires. Raw as a finisher when not cutting in from the wing, and a long ways to go for a forward. However, he grew up playing as a winger and is much more comfortable there. He should evolve into a more central role since his acceleration, poor crossing, and unrefined dribbling will cap his potential in the long haul if he doesn’t put in a lot of work to improve. However, people are still high on him and he is very young. England youth national as well.

Tendayi Darikwa - Nottingham Forest
Very fast and strong RB that can bomb up and down the flank, but offers little on the ball. He is a good defender normally, but prone to lapses in concentration that can prove fatal. Unrefined, but still a contributor.

https://youtu.be/86qs8qYi0Ls?t=325 he does a good job running the flank so Lolly can cut in and not leave a space in the attack open like here and with the speed
https://youtu.be/P8L6oUrP-hU?t=389 another example of his willingness to run forward but inability to do much then and very poor technical quality

Will Vaulks - Cardiff (joined from Rotherham) and Welsh NT

He’s a very solid player on what was a poor Rotherham side that ended up getting dropped. He’s a warrior, had a really good shot on him, really nice long ball, and solid tackling ability. Make sure to give him long ranger and long throw too. Almost always stopping instead of dribbling, he’s very slow on the ball. A cool player that’ll help them a lot.

Semi Ajayi - West Brom and Nigeria NT (transferred from Rotherham)

The other standout player that got pouched from the relegated side, Ajayi is a former Arsenal player who never made it but now has a chance to chase promotion instead of avoid relegation. He is capable of playing at the back or as a DM and has a good goal streak in him when given the chance to shoot from range. Powerful, but a little clumsy like all with long legs. He has some spring too and elevates really well.

Due to the rollbacks taking away 30 or so players I had posted previously, just let me know who to add and when. I have a good number more we could add as well, but if there are any missing in particular just request and I will add when possible.

Pederson with a super powerful headed goal at 3:30 https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=JhWYuNHeeHc that really needs to be seen. I’ll revisit to turn into a gif later. He plays as a CB in a back 3 or RB in a back 4. Versatile, smart, industrious.
