Another vid from him, playing in Fenerbahce, such a crazy talent, fantastic player, unpredictable dribble. This Ortega was different from the one of 1998, it seemed stronger, a little slower and better dribbler...when he came back to River a few years after this showed the same level. It seems in this era the wine made effect in him and gained a couple of kgs and they last till he retired, changed his body completaly.

Also, he was impressive young talent in 1994 and we should consider creating a new set for him (just like for Ronaldo as they were 2 of best young talents in the world during mid-90s)
I was going to post in this thread as yesterday i've been reviewing some info about him and 3 or 4 vids and vs vid i made in the past. He's one of my favourites players ever...actually he does need some sets because it's a guy that literally changed his body and style of playing that much because of multiple reasons.
I have doubts about the first era...he does need a 94-96 set (WC 94', Libertadores 96' and first shinny era at River)...then he had a nice time at Valencia, Sampdoria and Parma and played the 98 WC...but after that he changed his body mass and became "heavier"...still a 2002-2004 set is needed as well, playing his best football ever at River in 2002 imo and going to Turkey...then the suspension and the comeback to Newell's to be champion after a long time and having crazy performances those years.
After this year his decline became more evident and still was able to have nice performances in 2008 being champion in Simeone's team with Falcao and Buonanotte but I think that's the least set we need. Current set should be the one at Europe time imo. I'll check it later and try to add some sets, I've worked a lot in his young days before but I lost it.
Well added first set as well, I've got some doubts cause he's really hard to rate but I think the three sets are well replicated. Also he's a player who changed a lot his style and way of playing due to inconsistency, physique and motivation. First set is the one when he was more explosive, young, energic and insanely agile who made incredible dribblings due to the fact he was crazily fast in short distances in terms of dribble.
Btw still I have to review 2000 set to make balanced with the others, specially his passing speed which was non existant most of the time. Despite that, that era was probably his best ever or at least the one I liked him more, so sad his WC 2002 wasn't that great because he played out of position.
Of the best dribblers that I saw in my life, infernal ep/da to remove rivals up in very tight spaces. Safe Imo you need as low numbers on sps/lps in their first years in river? And because your ment/tw is so low in all its set, never I thought it was a player disconnected and without brain as Pity-Teo-Lanzini. And to correct eras? Above all NOB/River
Sometimes I forget how good he was, Ortega was an unique player imho, I've never ever watched a player like him again, weird and fantastic talent. Also his passing became way better in this era. His agility was out of this world, even losing his speed...the guy had insanely fast body movements with and without the ball. Lucas uploaded this video, probably in the middle of a low level, getting old but still class...look the way he was kicked by the brazilian (Libertadores, baby)...and here you can watch his growth at his BB compared with his young (even top) days, it was the most significant change.
Incomparable player. You can blame Ortega due to a lot of external reasons (non professionalism, giving a damn about football sometimes, drunk, some idiotic behaviours, not being that consistent throught his career, the conflict with Fenerbache, etc), but without any doubt he's one of most talented players ever. Love him.
I found another vid of a game I remember just like it would have been yesterday. 2004 great game of that Newell's champions vs Boca in La Bombonera. It was a really special match for Ortega since he's a River hero. Look at this action and his agility, just still out of this world:
Given him red agility as well in last set, there's no reason to keep it lower than that, I was conservative and it's in vain. Still I have to review the 2000 set, probably 97 is the right value for that era...I should balance as a whole with the other 2 as well.
You're right, in terms of agility is the best player I've seen, the waist I had, broke all thanks to that, as for the first set I have an existential doubt if I could have 98 or 99, I do not say it, it says all the matches that Ortega played at that time. In his second set, 97 is fine, he looked heavier but the agility was still there. And the third set, I think a 95 would be fine, I feel that the 96 could be a number for the second set.
I think the time of the last 2 set is wrong, in the second set, instead of 2000-2001 should be 2000-2002, remember that Ortega, despite his World Cup, had a great performance in the "clausura" being the figure of that team.
while the last set, this represents more his time in Newells more than anything, in the Fenerbahce almost did not play, besides that he had that penalty in which he did not play for several months, the right thing would be 2004-2006, where he represents his stay in Newells.
