Andoni Zubizarreta | 1988-1993

Postby PES Stats Database » 2008 Dec 13, 20:30

Name: Andoni Zubizarreta Urreta

Club: FC Barcelona

INFO:

Born in Vitoria, Andoni Zubizarreta, belongs to an exclusive list of players who have appeared in four World Cups. He had to wait for several years to break into the national team because of the presence of Luis Arconada, but made his debut against Finland in 1985. Zubizarreta began his career in Athletic Bilbao and made his league debut for them in 1982. He had established himself as the national team goalkeeper before the 1986 World Cup in Mexico and gave some quality performances as Spain reached the quarterfinals and lost to Belgium on penalties.

Zubizarreta's greatest asset as a goalkeeper was his positioning. He was seldom forced to make spectacular saves because of his ability to read the game. A goalkeeper without any special weaknesses, Zubi kept himself at the top for many years because of his great all-round abilities. In 1986, Barcelona signed him and Zubi spent eight wonderful years at the Nou Camp. Zubizarreta could look back at a very successful career having won many honours including, six Spanish league championships, three Spanish Cup titles, a European Cup Winners Cup title and a European Champions Cup title. He played more than 600 league games in Spain and won 126 caps, both are Spanish records.

Woah!!! This Zubizarreta is Awesome, LOL

There's a Few Thing You Have to Raise:

Shot Power: 83 to ---> 94 he was able to Shoot from his own Gate to the Oposite's Goalkeeper, You can See that in Spain vs Germain 1-0 in USA 1994

Team Work Ability: 83 to ---> 89 also he was a Great Goalkeeper, his best quality was the hability to handle his own teammates and organize the Defense

Jump: 83 to ---> 80 Have you ever saw Arnodl Schaweerzeneig... (What ever) jumping? Zubi was something like that... BAD JUMPER!!!

The rest is really Accurate!

See You Around!

** See First Post ;) ***

______________________________________________________________________________

I expanded his era from 1986 to 1992, 'cause Zubi confirm in the Mexico WC that him was one of the best keepers of the world, until this WC he sign for FC Barcelona, also he win his only Zamora's trophy in the season 1986/87. I've putted to him Standard/Lasting 'cause he starts his decline until 1993/94, when FC Barcelona lost the UCL final. It's true that Barça doesn't treat him in the good way, dismissing him when he return to Barcelona from that final.

Also I've made only some changes on his stats: standarized non-keeper skills and raise his jump to 82, 'cause I'm agree that him doesn't have a great jump but I find 80 harsh for him. Taking in count that originally was 83, with an 82 is more than enough.

Updated to fit new format according to Xyder's suggestions (look at the above post for explanations). Changes...

1. Changed his Era from 1989-1992 to 1986-1992.

2. Shot Accuracy: 40-->44, Shot Technique: 42-->44, Curling: 40-->48,

3. Header: 48-->44, Jump: 80-->82,

4. Added new Cards: S12: 1-on-1 Keeper + Attack/Defence Awareness Card: Defence Minded.

5. Added Growth type: Standard/Lasting. Added Honours, Videos and Additional Links.

Shouldn't he be in 80'? A mean his era is twice longer in 80' than in 90'(4 years in 80' and 2 years in 90').

I've been wanting to tackle this set and add him to the database for a while, then I found this.

Gotta say Brezza's original set doesn't look that far off reality. He seemed to be a pretty solid and safe keeper, commanding and imposing to a certain degree, not really a physical beast nor specially gifted with reflexes nor body agility, but the keeper job he knew well.

Honestly 95 DEF + 93 GKS do not look crazy at all, even if this DEF value was probably given due to 'great positioning' or something like that, he does look like a very solid, cool-headed and trustworthy keeper in difficult situations, taking advantage of his frame (for late 80s - early 90s, 187cm in the spanish league was a really big guy). Other than that, he catches many balls or either parries them safely, and his positioning looks ace, enabling him to make many saves look easy.

Konami's set also highlights DEF + GKS combo. I would have no issues with most of the rest of their values, although I'm not really sure he truly merits a yellow jump, from the videos something around 78 could be fair enough. Also not sure to what extent 88 RES is necessary, to me he looks 85ish, perhaps 86 at best but not higher.

I think these main abilities are fine rated (DEF, RES, GKS).. body balance should be decrased around 86/87, agility in white for sure (73) and jump 78 would be fine for him.. speed stats could be boosted little bit since he wasn't that slow when comes out of line on the crosses and in 1-on-1 situations..
