Marco Van Basten was the greatest striker in the world during the late 1980s. Blessed with two great feet, grace with close control, quick on the turn and excellent in the air, and a panache for scoring spectacular goals for club and country. He was best remembered with his winning goal in European Championship 1988 final match against Soviet Union. He shot from a seemingly impossible angle. The shear audacity and technique of that strike showed his supreme class. Van Basten was very success in his career with AC Milan, and regarded as the greatest striker in history of Italian Serie A. Despite average of score per game in the league was lower than any era due to appearances of many world-class defenders but he still scored 90 goals in 147 games. Van Basten was forced to retire early at 29 through injury . he was voted 8th, 9th and 12th the greatest footballer of the century by France Football, World Soccer and IFFHS, respectively, and was voted 4th by UEFA Jubilee poll.
