Ferenc Puskás | 1952-1956

Postby PES Stats Database » 2008 Dec 10, 16:45

Nickname: "The Galloping Major"

Clubs: Budapest Honvéd (1952/1956) | Real Madrid (1958/1959)

Growth type: Standard/Lasting

INFO:

Spoiler: show
Overweight, stocky and didn't know he had a right foot. Puskas, despite his appearance, was possibly the greatest striker of all time! As a member of "The Magnificent Magyars" his international record is astonishing with 85 goals in 84 games, only Ali Daei of Iran has surpassed it! He had a rocket of a left foot, you just wonder where he was hiding that cannon! He had a brilliant first touch and was something of a trickster, in Stanley Matthews Testimonial he stood in the centre of the pitch doing keepie-uppies with his left foot. He could dribble past players and tore apart most teams, he famously demolished Germany 8-3! He was simply unmarkable and incredibly difficult to stop. He was a great leader and formed unbelievable partnerships with Di Stefano at club level, and Kosics on the international stage. It's a shame God picked him for his Heaven XI :( .

Could maybe do with a couple of tweaks. Konami were abit harsh on him speed wise, but its understandable in a way. Obviously from just watching compilation vids he comes across as a very nippy/nimble striker and in truth, yes he was deceptively very quick short bursts. but he also had a pretty composed style about him, also coming across as being quite un-athletic at times... not sure.

Passing could maybe come up, technically very neat and clean. Not sure about a raise to konami levels but speed should be in greens for both. more of a set up type passing than one to make killer through balls. Teamwork needs to go down, Constant movement wasn't quite his style

Futhermore I really like P1rha's suggestions a page or so back in terms of things like balance response etc. His shots were like laser guided exocet missiles but I dont think his shot power should be on par with Eusebio.

There're several values that need tweaking... 90 BB is crazy. Nothing over low yellows to me. Stamina should also be lower (79 maybe? I like the idea of putting him on greens). Speed... yes, TS to greens, ACC can stay this way. I think P1rha wanted Response downgraded to a high yellow number (87?) and I won't discuss it... I'd even go a bit lower to be honest, he could be a bit poachy sometimes but it wasn't exactly his style (he didn't need to be poachy since he could smash it home from pretty much everywhere). About passing... I'd keep the accuracy values as they are, and agree about downgrading SPS to greens (76-77 maybe?). LPS is ok as it is I think.

Shot Power... I'm not sure. He could smash it really hard when he wanted, and the range from where he could shoot was impressive. That said, I don't think he even deserves reds. I don't know... low/mid oranges maybe. Between 91 and 93.

Agree about downgrading teamwork as well, too. What do you have in mind? High greens?

In my opinion, he definitely deserves shot power 97! His shots were extremely powerful (for example one of his goals in the European Cup final 1960 being a real blast http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mqicRhEM7xM ). Moreover, for me, he is the only one who should have shot accuracy 99. He simply was one if not the most precise marksman of the twentieth century!

I'm taking my words about downgrading his SPS back. After paying a bit more attention, I think he's probably worthy of his current value after all. Maybe one of the very few players of that era to deserve yellow SPS.

And my view of his global speed stats has also changed a bit. Honestly... the more I see him, the more I think TS > Acc, and DS on greens. I don't find him specially "explosive" when starting runs (if a more or less quick defender was around, he would chase him down easily), but his speed over mid/long distances was actually pretty decent. And while his speed on the ball was nothing more than decent, when he tried to punt and run he could become quite troublesome for defenders to catch. I'm not sure about this, his way of moving was a bit off. Same of his AGI... he could be deceptively agile considering his "fatty" looks, but not as agile as an 86. Di Stefano was more agile than him, for sure. Maybe 83-84 could be ok for Puskas.

As far as I know he was 100 % one footed player so I find wfa:4 and wff:2 very generous.

Because you prolly haven't read the damn rules. That's because you're either lazy or 12.

Cristiano is rapidly approaching this legends' total RM goal tally, which he will eclipse with a much higher % of efficiency.

You don't have to be a mind reader to see where I'm going with this...

Looking at the stats of both players, the above fact doesn't seem likely.

No I don't know at all where are you going with this, and why are you comparing players that have reached their peak 60 years apart from each-other. If you've seen Puskas matches, then you're welcome to comment, if you've got anything to say about the Ronaldo set, do it in Ronaldos thread.

I think Cristiano Ronaldo should be around 98 attack but that's not the place to speak about it. And Messi 99 by far. With Messi both are two of the best scorer of history. Very few to not say no one have and had the same abilities of scoring goals, giving goals (assist) to their partner and creating danger.

Apart from that it's clear that you didn't took the good way of speaking about it even if I can understand as CR7 thread is always close.

I get what your saying, so I'll reopen Ronaldos thread in the classics. Best to discuss that matter there.
