I disagree with him beign overrated. He's a monster in almost every aspect, he's fast, strong, good in the air, a pretty good tackler, etc. The worst thing about him are his MENT and his TW, both are pretty terrible. He's an spectacular tackler, but usually leaves huge holes behind him in the last line when he gets out trying to tackle. Probably his TW could be even lower, in pair with Ramos. He compensates this with his amazing speed, that's why we see so many runs by him.
Anyway I still don't get why his RES is so low, I think he could probably have a better value there, but maybe the mid yellow RES+87 DEF would make him too good overall.
Also I have some doubts on his passing, I really don't know if he's that much better than Sakho, for example, specially at long passing.

Edit: I also don't know if his HEA is so good. He's a monster in the air, but most of it thanks to his JUMP, and I don't see how his HEA is four points better than Pepe. I'd go for an 82 here.

Please ts 97 acc 85

Auba had a low BC and DA, so he will look slow at he receive the ball IMO, and Varane is off the ball

89 is fine and already a huge value, especially for a CB. Maybe 90 but that would be purely aesthetic.
On the other hand, I'd keep an eye on his DEF/Def prowess. Looks like he declined in this aspect.

Yeah, his DEF (and TW) is way too high, in combo with balance and ts he's way too better than he is in reality. I seriously think that playing alongside Ramos "killed" him. I mean, he's top class prospect, but can you learn something from fucking Ramos? Even Pepe who's by far better defender than Ramos is not perfect role-model, i think he needed some tactically more clever player, experienced, to become a top defender. For instance playing next to someone like Kompany (in his prime) would make him a real beast.

DEF should be like 84? TW 70.

I think it's not fair, just because a player is a defender should be considered slower than a striker.
it is true a defender uses less speed.
but no one has ever passed Varane, even auba, but the contrary!

He isn't considered slower because he is a defender, he is considered slower because he didn't prove to be faster. And even if he did once, it wouldn't mean he deserves 95 speed.

Look at Messi, he does very high speed sprints from time to time, but his speed isn't 88 or something like thatbecause he's not consistently at that level.

Guys , i think that Varane's set should have some small tweaks . He gets injured a lot and misses lot's of games in a season so i suggest IT C for him and also SB and DMF should have been removed cause he hasn't played there for a long time and it looks like he won't play there anymore ;)

It's been suggested earlier, but his DEF looks too high as well, he has become very error prone considering the defensive potential he showed at his debuts.

Sounds dumb to say but Ramos' influence isn't doing any good to his progression as a defender.

This DEF value was awarded at a time when Ramos was also on yellows. To be entirely fair, I don't think it's too far from reality, Varane is quite good at disposessing when really focused on it. May need a slight tone down even if just for consistency's sake.

varane is probably worth something like 93 ts. his top speed might be red honestly. he reminds me of kyle walker with the way he eats up ground when he gets into full stride. acceleration could be higher too- not too much though. he made aubameyang look slow last year, he just totally outran him. maybe that in itself isn't important because aubameyang looked really below his standard, but just judging his pace in itself he often hits a gear where no one can match him, over a distance of say 25 yards he just easily overcomes the attacker chasing a through pass or diagonal pass. i've also seen him use that pace when going forward and it can be devastating.

i know that makes him a monster, but that's what he is. he is a physical monster.

Orange ts may be a fair deal, he has crazy speed over long distances indeed.

On the other hand, we have discussed about a possible DEF downgrade a way back. Varane has truly some moments of greatness in terms of dispossessing, but it's also true he's shown many "off" moments, concentration lapses, etc. So as a compromise value, and for the sake of having a balanced set, perhaps his DEF shouldn't be over 85? And his TW should go down as well, when Ramos and him play together it's always the same story, individually speaking both of them have physical combos that turn them into effective defenders (despite Ramos' retardation and his physical decline, which he compensates with experience) but they've always struggled working as a cohesive unit. Put them under pressure and it's always a disaster wanting to happen, even if most times - thanks to individual effort, or midfielders' assistante - they manage to pull it off.

One could also wonder to what extent working alongside Ramos in defence may put any defender into very difficult situations, but well, Pepe mostly managed fine.

i've wondered for a while about if pepe was underrated though. like you say, he was always the standout defender for real madrid and portugal when it came to actual defending. he was portugal's best player at the euros too, probably the outright key to portugal winning that tournament.
