New Standards Thread

Postby Yazid » 2013 Oct 13, 17:46

Firstly, I'd like to start by saying the classic mods are doing a fantastic job in updating classic players to more current standards and I made this list to show what players still need to be brought to these standards from here onwards. I appreciate its tough to get footage of some of these players also.

I have some time off work and plan on helping the classic mods bring more players to current standards. Below is the list of pretty big players that need to be brought to standards and I think this list would be beneficial for the mods so they know who we have to update:

I was thinking we could sticky this thread and I could mark the players off and we update them if everyone's OK with that idea?

Interesting initiative, although it's depressing to think of the number of potential candidates who would constitute tier 3. Seriously, that tier would be absolutely stacked.

Of the list you've provided, I'd like to try my hand at the Hyypia, Riise and Molby sets, but anything pre-80's is uncharted territory for me.
His TS is 83, big deal. Arguing for 79 is whiny.

Well essentially, I just looked through the NT all star teams and these were the players who turned up. I could split them into a further tier but I don't see the point. I'm going to try and go through chronologically and post my sets based on the footage I've seen of the players.

For the purposes of not clogging up the forums with new sets everywhere and so they are all in one place, I'll post my sets for these players here and the mods can choose whether they want to update or not. Many of the tier 1 players I have surveyed footage of over the last 6 months or so and made them in my game so I'll post these today.

In general, Mazzola was well rated across the board. Passing stats seemed a bit overblown looking at the ladders and I'd say Tech and DA a bit high too. Aside from that, it seemed a good set.

A similar case to Mazzola for Moreno, the inital set was pretty good aside from a hugely overblown stamina stat.

Now onto Schiaffino. I changed this set more than the above 2 because I feel there is a noticeable difference from what I saw compared to what is here.

Firstly, his passing stats. His SPA was fantastic but very conservative which is why I agree with the high SPA low SPS. What I will say is that I feel his SPA is noticeably better than his LPA of which from what I saw was infrequent and no more remarkable than what Xavi or Zidane could do.. I think I may have been generous giving him an orange value for LPA. Could easily sit on 88-89. Conversely, SPA is if anything slightly harsh. A red value would not be completely out of the question and the only reason I did not give him one is because his passing was so conservative that I do not think he needs it.

DA and Tech. His DA was well rated, he's a master of close control, rarely giving up possession of the football and often seen using trickery to beat a man. His tech is even more standout and could easily warrant a red value. I settled on 94 simply because I thought about people who sit on 95 (Xavi, Rivera) and I thought he wasn't quite that good. I do however think he is as good as Totti tech wise who sits on 95, so he could equally be a red figure candidate.

The final big thing is his teamwork. Now, initially when I saw how supportive his movements are off the ball that he was a red value no question. I was even considering 96 TW. However, looking at the ladders again, Di Stefano sits at 95 who is probably still more supportive than Schiaffino (although with far higher stamina and ment) so I settled on 94, but again, Schiaffino could warrant a red value for TW.

Finally, in his Roma years, Schiaffino played as a CWP, I don't know whether anyone wants to add that as an alternate position.

Again, as with Mazzola and Moreno, very little tweaking was required for this set as it was pretty much on the money. Raised his defence which from what I saw was very impressive. He was able to play CB as well as DM and I think putting him on a par with Makelele in terms of pure defence is more than fair. Certainly above Keane imo. Tweaked stamina and balance, he was an absolute monster strength wise coupled with leadership scarcely seen in history. Not convinced he showed stamina above classic Xavi so dropped it 1.

Gunnar Nordahl was an absolute monster who I actually think is slightly underrated on this site. Boosted his attack to current standards as well as SA and ST both by a point. SA could even warrant 95, probably not below Pele in terms of SA. Dropped SP to 91 in accordance with SP ladder, I don't see him as Charlton's equal in that regard. Aside from that, minor tweaks, BB +1, Agg +1, Heading +1 being the main points. Slightly improved his passing also, better than Batistuta on long and short pass accuracy imo.

For Luis Monti, one major change is making his primary position DMF. He played as an attacking centre half in the old-fashioned Metodo system: a position roughly equivalent to the defensive central midfield position of today. As such he would mark the opposing centre forward when his team were defending, but would be the main midfield playmaker when his team were on the attack. For his offensive capabilities I've left CMF as an option to play.

Again, stats wise, no huge overhaul, boosted defence to a more suitable value as he was used in the old Metodo system to mark the great strikers of his time. Increased mentality and teamwork also. Teamwork was increased to try and replicate how much ground he covered in a game and how he was pivotal in both defence and attack for Italy.

Masopust was essentially more attack minded Bozsik. He could do everything, great passer, fantastic ball control and a great link between defence and attack. Renowned for his endless stamina like an older version of Nedved.

Mainly cosmetic changes for Liedholm, SP was too low imo, also bumped Mentality, not sure why he was undeserving of yellow value. Aside from that, increased DA by 1, considered 97 SPA but decided he was fine on the same as Totti.

With all due respect, these sets almost look exactly the same? And a lot of these sets were just posted by randoms and moved from the old site, some have not been touched in literally 4 or more years, and theres no doubt that many of them are in bizarre standards that are completely out of sync with the database. Slight point changes here and there isn't bringing them to new standards, they need complete overhauls, the sets currently on the site aren't trust worthy at all.

Well, some of the sets are accurate to what (in some cases limited) footage I have seen of the players, most notably Liedholm and Nordahl of the one's I've listed. Schiaffino I felt I made notable changes to to improve him in game, however if you disagree, that's fine. Complete overhauls would definitely be more ideal, but who has the time to start all these players from scratch. I've seen quite a bit of footage on most of them in tier 1 so would be happy to delegate some of my time to it, but I'd need help.
