I know its early in the season, but I'd just like to point out the Škrtl has picked up where he left off last season. And By that I don't mean scoring goals, I mean being defensively awful. To clarify, he makes incredible hollywood blocks and clearances that are very entertaining to watch, individually his defensive work is excellent, but defending is a team job and Skrtel makes basic team defence errors on a regular basis. Without Agger he is lost, having said the Lovren was excellent in pre season and against Southampton. But the point remains if you watch his game play last season and this he finds himself in positions that he shouldn't be in, yet makes tackles that look amazing and get him out of trouble. But he wouldn't need to make them if he was better at concentrating on the game, and being aware or his defensive partners position and his own. Case and point:- the shot Mignolet deflected on to the bar against Southampton last week came from a ball being chipped into the box, Škrtel was so busy trying to walk forward and hold the defensive line he found himself in a poor position (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QluS3w8kQnw
). Just watch his poor positioning. And here is an article which brilliantly summarises Liverpools defensive weakness up until March in the last campaign (http://www.theliverpoolword.com/2014/03 ... ing-goals/
). As you'll see Skrtl makes the most individual errors. Often getting drawn into bad positions by now being aware of other threats. Its a bit like a stupid Lion seeing a slab of meat on the floor on the Savannah and just running for it, then getting caught by a poacher, while a second more thoughtful Lion things thats a bit easy I think I'll stay with the pack, and go then we can close it out together. The reason I'm making such a large issue of it is because he is still getting plaudits for poor performances and I truly believe his ratings are far to good here. And I'm biassing this on last season too. His defensive rating, teamwork or response needs to come down. Personally I'd say defence 84, and Response 81 he's far to good on PES 2014 on his current rating. 86 puts him as high as Höwedes and Bonucci, I don't think a team that controls a game as much as Liverpool do then concede so many goals when Skrtl is in defines can claim to have a player in the same league as Juventus, and Höwedes is just a far better centre back from what I saw last season.
