Panionios FC for the next 2 years, after he rejected a contract extension as a second-choice at
I am happy to see him leave Cyprus and go somewhere else like Panionios where he can develop without the pressure and criticism that he had at APOEL. I mean, he wasn't a tragically bad player for APOEL as he was putting a shift-in every single time he played, however, he didn't have the quality that was required to be a first-choice APOEL Left-Back, especially going-forward(considering the fact that coach Temuri Ketsbaia used to play him a lot as a Central-Midfielder last Season, a position which is beyond his abilities!). Also. his poor marking Vs Astana last Season in the Champions League Play-Offs 2nd Leg has contributed to last-minute Champions League elimination for APOEL. Adding to that, his poor display in the 2-3 home loss to Bosnia in the last matchday of the group stages was one of the main reasons why Cyprus failed to earn qualification for the Play-Offs of the Euro 2016, for the first time in their history.
I actually thought that he would be a bad move for
AEK Larnaca after signing for them as a Free-Agent in the Summer, especially after his bad last two Seasons with APOEL Nicosia and Panionios Athens, but I think that he is performing consistently and solid until today this Season.
Again, not anything great going-forward, and he is one of their very few first-eleven players who doesn't normally play a big part to their modern and tidy build-up play and passing-game, maybe to avoid some possible mistakes made by him, but he actually had some good moments going forward from the games I can remember, especially last match-day Vs Omonoia. Defensively, he is doing fine in the majority of matches, especially regarding his tenacious tackling, as his marking is not and had never been his best asset.
So far he played mainly as Left-Back(with 4 at the back), and Left-Center-Back(with 3 at the back), and even sometimes as Right-Center-Back and Left-Wing-Back, both when playing with 3 at the back. I think that the position of Left-Center-Back fits him the most because he is relatively mobile for a Center-Back and fits a system with 3 at the back, and also due to the fact that as a Left-Back, attackingly he is not the best, and sometimes maybe his team's whole Left-Flank paralyses going-forward with him at the Left-Back.
About his Set, I have to admit that before signing for AEK Larnaca, I was sure that the majority of his Technical Stats
should be downgraded by a point or two at least, but as he is performing well ever since, let's put plans for downgrades on-hold until at least the recent future.
P.S. Enter ", AEK Larnaca" to the title of his thread.
