- Jorge Filipe Monteiro is a Portuguese winger who started his career at the youth teams of FC Porto and played for almost all Portuguese youth National Teams.
Surprisingly for him, he didn't make an appearance for the first team there, and he didn't even had the opportunity to train with the first team, unlike most of his teamates.
Monteiro spent most of his time there out on loan to low-league Portuguese teams.
He made his first permanent move in the summer of 2010 to Santa Clara playing 27 games and scoring 4 goals in his first season, impressing Pambos Christodoulou, the coach of AEL Limassol and convincing him to join his revolution at Limassol for a transfer fee of approximately €100,000.
In his first season with AEL, he was one of the key players as the team won the Cypriot Championship after 44 years. In the next season he played a major part as the team played in the Europa League for the first time in their history and reaching the final of the Cypriot Cup. However, it was commonly believed that he lacked goals.
The next season, 2013-14, it was the season when he started scoring goals and he couldn't stop, scoring 18 goals in 34 league appearances filling the gap left after Orlando Sa was sold to Legia Warsaw, as the team lost the league in the final matchday Vs APOEL.
Jorge Monteiro was included in various articles about possible Portuguese players that can be called-up for the 2014 Brazil World Cup, but he was never called-up.
At the end of the season, he was selected in the best eleven of Portuguese players playing abroad with Cristiano Ronaldo on the wings.
During and after the season, he received interest from various clubs, including many Russian, Portuguese clubs, Wisla Krakow and Legia Warsaw and Cypriot rivals APOEL.
Monteiro reportedly signed a pre-contract agreement with APOEL Nicosia towards the end of the season, but changed his mind after fan violence in the final matchday Vs APOEL, when the game stopped and repeated without fans.
In June 2014, he signed as a free-agent for newly promoted Portuguese team Moreirense F.C.(a decision he later regretted) as a surprise to everybody, as he could have found a much better team after his fantastic season.
