- Mario Sergio Leal Nogueira is a Portuguese Right-Back, who was a regular for Portugal Youth National teams, including the U20s, the U21s and the U23s, as well as the 2004 Portuguese Olympic Games’ team and Portugal "B" National Team.
Sergio is the complete modern day Full-Back; a very offensive player, with excellent crosses, shots and Free-Kicks and with breathtaking stamina.
He started his career at Pacos de Ferreira and he had spells with several Portuguese teams, including: Sporting Lisbon, Vitoria Guimaraes and Naval.
Mario Sergio joined Ukrainian side Metalurh Donetsk in 2008 and he stayed there until the Summer of 2012.
His impressive performances in Ukraine resulted in him joining APOEL Nicosia as a Free-Agent to replace legendary Right-Back, Savvas Poursaitides.
At first, he struggled to adapt to APOEL and he had many difficulties in his defensive duties.
However, Sergio soon proved his worth and he became well-known as the player who doesn't miss a single minute of game time.
Despite being a bit old, he recently renewed his contract until 2017 and he is considered to be the first name on the team sheet.
His 2014-15 Season was his best in an APOEL shirt, very rarely missing a single minute of game-time with APOEL winning the domestic Double and qualifying for the group stages of the Champions League. For his contribution that season, he was voted by the fans as “Player of the Season”.
