Move him to Atletico Madrid, he's their player for days now, number 17.
The deal has little to do with football, and it's a gift for his agent, who's also Oblak's agent, for Jan's previously agreed new deal with Atleti in april, that's what i heard, and it makes sense. It's not that Šaponjić does not have potential, but he didn't make any impact in Benfica, he was really, really far from playing in their first team, he played only for Benfica B. After selling Jović for peanuts, they are not exactly the most reliable group of people when it comes to transfer related decisions making, but Luka actually played some games for their A team in 2016. even in UCL, and should i say that Šaponjić is really far from Jović's potential, regardless of their completely different style.
The thing with this guy is that he was a really dominant post player in youth system. He was one of the vital members of Serbia's u20 team that won the world cup in 2015. He'd use his natural strenght to back into defenders and hold the ball up, play quick passes in the final third, and also was useful aerially. But, look at the post from december of 2015. just months after the world cup glory. He was just way too bad in terms of what esentially is his main strenght, and that's really worrying. He was unable to play like a proper target man against experienced, but mainly stronger CB's, and that's because he's a coward. I have never seen in my life a player that is less interested in playing football than Šaponjić. His body language, his face, his actual duels were mostly embarrasing in senior football.
Like, there is quality in him, both in terms of supportive play, and in scoring goals, but his mentality is just woeful, and i think he pretty much doesn't care, and can't hustle. He'll probably play a grand total of 3 games for Atletico in Copa before they loan him out to some shitty team. Except he suddenly become a non-pussy, he can be pretty useful.
