It is really difficult to defend him. Egídio is an extremely limited player who played for big part of the year in a system that potentiates his own defensive ability and demands a lot of quality in the attack, which despite some physical qualities and in-crossing strength, he is very far to have it.
His technique skills is horrible, even with the ball standing there is clear the difficulty he has in having a simple or safe control of the ball and in addition to always deciding something with less probability of succeeding at the moment, his first touche is similar to DA. His shorting passing is also terrible and slow, which saved his offensive power was aggressiveness and strength in crossing. The problem is that the minimum regularity he had in LPA was gone, it's completely annoying the dumb way that he picks up the ball and crosses it in anyway, without precision, with no notion of space or infiltration, just with force.
Physically far from beeing dominant but manages to have a reasonable speed within the average of the sidebacks but still a little below. What makes him still have the slightest possibility of efficiency in the attack is the speed he has with the ball to the feet, the problem is that he always uses it stupidly or with a totally wrong pass just after the race. He even uses his body a lot to try to protect the ball and especially for the tackles but he is not a strong player, it is difficult to judge because of this fact but he is not a strong player, look even weak someties, although he always tries to physical contact.
Agility at 80 is enough, he seems much more nimble than he is, but this is because his is the pessimistic one and he has to try to use the body to deceive or even direct some way, but the agility in the movements of his body are far, far away, from being unpredictable or something that has a significant effect for dribbling.
He is very hardworking, and this gives up pity, because he has no intelligence in almost any action of the game, with the ball or without it, so one makes up of stamina in the average of the sidebacks and very small mentality is excellent to replicate it.
His big problem is mental, he ALWAYS makes the wrong choice and this potentializes his giant deficiency tactically. Seriously, his sense of defensive play is appalling, he is always tactically lost and sometimes he gets some very random interceptions of places in relation - to his tactical correct position - where he should be due to such aggressiveness... but also far from being anything concretely positive in his game, since compromises and much the defensive line.
It is obvious that individual scoring puts the potential of these errors, not only of him, and in fact he is a player often pursued even when he makes "normal" mistakes or when he does not fail and guilt goes to him .. but he still so it seems to be a magnet for the worst choices regardless of game phase or framed scheme.
