the factor that u mention(speed and ability) affect the quantity of tackle(he has more opportunity to made tackle whtever it's gonna success or not)
wht im saying is about the quality of tackles
..with such a high successful tackle rate
tackles has to be accurate both timing(response) and positioning(defence)
defence attribute is all about defence positioning which i guess everyone agree
but defence positioning isnt just about the quality of where he stand in defence situation, it's also about making tackles correctly as well
im sorry about my english as english isnt my 1st language

Then perhaps what you feel he needs is a star, but i believe currently his defence stat is a little too high when you compare him to other side backs.

if u noticed..in old forum clichy used to have *marking as well as defence 75
then people say thats too strong for him..then people satisfy clichy with defence 75 with no *marking and it left as it is since
if lower his defence..
he response has to be increased few points higher than wht he gets now
about *sliding i have it on mine
someone pop up in old forum but people seems not so care about it...

IMO

Defence:74
Balance:78
Response:85
Sliding*

This i feel would make him very life like.
74 isn't bad for a full back and in combination with his response and sliding* he will be able to nail most of his tackles as he does in real life.

And his balance should really go up as he isn't as weak as 76

further more..one of the reason that clichy has 75 is to define the different between he and evra (74)in terms of defence
even so his defence at 75 or 74
he deserve higher response
in my opinion..his response should be in 85-86 region

about the BB..76 is slightly weaker than he is but i would say 77 for safe
78 will on pair with evra where im not confident with that

Defence: 74 (i'd put him 1 below evra actually on 73)
Balance:78 (no his balance is fine)
Response:85 (i wouldn't go that high, 84 is fine)

Unsure as to what star he should have, maybe a test is in order.

Shouldn't Condition be 8? If I'm not wrong he only missed one match last season, and in this season he has pretty much been playing in every match

Clichy had a terrible game today, not sure if his Def should be this good anymore, he mostly just relies on his speed and when he goes up against pacey players he struggles.

I completely agree mate, but people will not hear it for some reason. Time and time again over the last two seasons he has consistently made mistakes that have lead to goals or been caught out due to bad bad positioning. I mean 73 isn't awful (what i'm suggesting) and i really think people need to stop focusing on him having 'a green' and start focusing on the actual value he deserves.

his positioning isn't that good, he has amazing speed and good response which still makes him effective in the game. I don't feel he should be this good in defense anymore

I have a good friend who supports Arsenal, and he said 70!! (Harsh, I feel)

72/73 I feel. He is all about his speed and responce. He sometimes gets passed quite easily, but obviously can recover.

It's right, his positioning isn't that special as in the last sesson, I agree with 73.

Can defence be updated, or does anyone want to add anything?

Where am I? :? In Clichy's thread? Why am I here? ... Oh I remember, I wanted to suggest something, yeah.. sclerosis sucks!

So, as we all know. This season isn't that good for Clichy as the last one. He made some terrible mistakes and he can seems for someone like an uncertain footballer. Actually, Clichy showed that he is. In last seasson I was so glad and happy, I was in euphory that Clichy is the best left back in the world. Today I can't say it, he is still very good and quality player, but he isn't so dangerous for his opponents. He lost A LITTLE BIT of his brilliant pace (as we have already updated some time ago), he lost something, why he was so special in this position, his positioning isn't so magnificent as in the last seasson. It's just not that Clichy, who I loved so much! :D

Attack/Defence: Good attacker.... no, if I say "Good attacker" I don't mean Clichy. Clichy will be absolutely amazing, if he will be not afraid to go forward, like Evra, he goes even to the opponents 16' and he can finish it, althoug he scored only 1 goal and also need and update! Clichy really can't use his attack knwoledge very well. I score goals with him. It isn't right. Decrease is needed there.
He made some "good" positional mistakes this seasson (Spurs - autumn). He really isn't a master in that nowdays, I'm sad that I must say it, but didn't improve in that....
Stamina: He was a machine last seasson. Nowdays he has still pretty much good stamina, but he doesn't deserve to be in the middle 90's. Slight decrease could be better.

Sum up:
Attack: 71-72
Defence: 73-74
Stamina: 91-92
I know that i don't know anything.
