Re: Marcos Senesi

Looking forward to seeing him in the Dutch league. It’s been ages since Feyenoord have had a reliable player at CB, so let’s see what he can bring.

Going off these stats, hopefully Stam can help him hone his defensive skills.

Re: Georginio Wijnaldum

Another great showing against Germany. Ran them ragged. His 90th minute cross-field sprint being the cherry on top. Also showed excellent technique and attacking instincts throughout, in a more advanced position than for his club. If he keeps this up a slight boost in ATT, TW and passing is warrante...

Re: Georginio Wijnaldum

It’s funny when comparing his ratings to the Edgar Davids Juve set, the latter is rated higher in basically every way. I would expect Gini to be at least equal if not better in most of the attacking stats.

Re: Matthijs De Ligt

great header goal vs alex sandro and rugani (Bonucci was also close), winning with great leap and great timing, very solid header nice goal from corner, his good command of the air game is very well represented, but possibly today's goal is indicative of a progressive advance in his aerial game by w...

Re: Matthijs de Ligt

I am not exaggerating when saying that De Ligt’s performance this CL season has been one of the great displays of DF leadership I’ve seen in any tournament. He has been the bedrock of an otherwise rickety-as-hell backline. Almost reaching the final, scoring goals and leading by example along the way...

Re: Daley Blind

He played one hell of a match yesterday. He is such a weird player, I remember him playing sometimes really good in big matches as a CB at Manchester United against big and good(Lukaku) premier league strikers. But then again sometimes he gets exposed against strikers you wouldn't expect it from Wo...

Re: Virgil van Dijk

He certainly has developed into a very impressive and interesting player. While I do agree that he is absolutely integral to the Liverpool defence and extremely influential, I would rate him differently. I think he can be influential without a godlike DEF rating (IMO a low orange rating is being gen...

Re: Nemanja Vidić

That's an interesting question. Generally speaking I don't think the current elite core of defenders measures up to the previous generation (of say: 10-15 years ago) in actual defensive skill. Thiago Silva is slightly overhyped but admittedly an exquisite tackler. Raphael Varane has shown the most i...

Re: Nemanja Vidić

I agee, his agility and speed don't help. Like I said: his further decline in those areas in recent years is what has made him extra vulnerable. This doesn't mean his DEF was ever worthy of a 90+ rating. For instance, Fernando Hierro was even slower and less agile, but a much more accomplished tackl...

Re: Nemanja Vidić

I maintain the perhaps controversial position that DEF-wise, Vidic may be among the most overrated CB's of his generation. And with his advancing age, I think this has become painfully more evident each passing season. His greatest skills have always been his physicality and mentality. Now, in terms...

Re: Sven van Beek

Is looking really solid and confident in the last couple of games; seems to have made the leap from boy to man in only half a season. He's less elegant and more resolute than De Vrij, and reminds one of the no-nonsense old-school Rotterdammers who did their duty before him. It'll be interesting to s...

Re: Colin Kazim-Richards

I really fail to see anything special in him, and I'm pessimistic about being proven wrong. To be honest, lowering most of his stats by 3 or 4 pnts would not look out of place in my opinion... He struggles every game I see him in, creates very little danger ( pssst: lower ATT! ) and if I were to kee...

Re: Marcelo

Yeah, with his PSV days as a reference, this set still seems very modest to me.

He was positively abysmal.
Amateurish in all aspects of the game.

So either the playing style in Hannover suits him better.
Or you need to evaluate after a longer period of scrutiny.

Re: Stefan de Vrij

Set looks fine now. However, have we agreed on a lower DA / BC based on Fides' comments? I'm inclined to agree, but then there shouldn't be double standards with regard to Luiz/Kompany etc. Hell, even Beckenbauer himself might be lowered to mid-80s in DA by such scrutiny. De Vrij is one of the best ...

Re: Daley Blind

Hope he keeps it up.

His tidiness and industry are key for him to be a success at this level.

And contrary to what Roy says, I can only see him do it from a central position (as he does have clear weaknesses, also).

Re: Raphaël Varane

by raising his def you would just put him on the same level like Benatia or Hummels and thats imo not right. He is indeed a great defender but both are in all respects but speed better than him. I agree, for the most part (bar dispossessing). "Better" is a vague term anyway. TW, MENT, RES...

Re: Raphaël Varane

i wouldn't be against a higher defence rating. Neither would I. When it comes to pure tackling, he's amongst Europe's elite, easily. I dare say I wouldn't rate him lower than even Kompany in that regard. Only the real master dribblers are able to cause Varane serious problems when taking him on one...
