Sugimoto is fast as hell (perhaps the fastest player in the J-League) and deadly in counter attacks thanks to his wonderful timing, he could be described as the Asian Lennon or Walcott.
His touches can be poor at times but he is phenomenally agile and very good with his left foot (natural qualities in the J-League). His mobility is extremely annoying for the adversaries marking him.
His former dutch coach said about him :
"He's fast, he's got an extremely good mentality, he knows his qualities, he knows his weaknesses, but more and more he is growing stronger technically.
"Defensively he helps everywhere on the pitch, but we want him to stay forward, not to run so far back.
"His position is excellent when he is up front and more and more he knows exactly offensively where he should be.
"Sometimes he's inside and sometimes he stands completely on the outside and that is very difficult to defend against."
The following videos should highlight his amazing pace and aggressive non-stop rushes.
