INFO:

Jair da Costa was used as right winger when Herrera was Inter's coach. Although Burgnich would occasionally join attack, more frequent situation was that Jair da Costa would drop deep in order to help his defenders and in order to sometimes start attacks from right back position. In fact, in some moments it seemed that Jair controlled almost complete right side.

***

Jair da Costa (born in Osasco, Sao Paulo) 9 July 1940) is a former Brazilian footballer who played for Internazionale and was part of their European Cup victories in 1964 and 1965. That Inter Milan team was known as "La Grande Inter" ("The Great Inter").

He was a right winger and a striker with lightning pace and acute finish. He also won the 1962 FIFA World Cup with the Brazil national football team.

I have a few suggestions for this player.

1. Although he wasn't excellent team player, he was a solid passer. SPA: 77, SPS: 78, LPA: 79, LPS: 82,

2. His Balance could be raised by 3 points (80). I saw him enduring a couple of heavy tackles, where the defender would fall (due to the lost of balance) and Jair would just stumble a little and then continue rushing towards the opponents box,

3. He's a decent worker on the field, so I think he deserves 84 Mentality (he often returns to his half to pick up the ball and start attack on the right side),

4. His ST should come down to 86 (89 looks too high),

5. SMF should be added as secondary position.

Sorry for bugging you Brezza, but I wrote LPA: 79 and LPS: 82. If you can fix that. Thanks in advance. :)

Updated to fit new format. Changes...

1. Changed his Era from 1962-1970 to 1962-1966. Added one more picture.

Changed Height: 168-->173 cm and Weight: 65-->67 kg. According to this source: http://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jair_da_Costa

Removed CF from secondary positions. I've tried to find info that he was used as CF, but only thing I could find is that he was used as right winger and/or attacker (I think attacker is referred to his ability to drift into the middle and act like inside-right, although he didn't start games at that position).

2. Defence: 38-->48 - From time to time he would deploy himself deep (almost to the right back position) and try to help out his defenders. Off course, his game reading and anticipation were his main weapons when he tried to fulfill his defensive tasks.

3. Stamina: 85-->87 - As I mentioned in the improved Info, it looked sometimes like Jair was controlling complete right side, and even sometimes started his team's counter attacks from right back position.

4. Response: 82-->84 - His game reading, anticipation and reflexes were very good, especially in or near the opposition's box. Also his Response allowed him to help out when his team defended.

5. Team Work: 76-->79 - Although he like to do solo actions, he had good understanding of his teammates moves, and he would occasionally play 1-2 passes or send solid crosses (or short passes from the corner of the box) after he beats his opponents with his pace and/or dribbling skills.

6. Removed *Side (already explained this in the above text), *Scoring and *Lines. Added *Dribbling. He really preferred to use his pace and his dribbling ability often.

Added new Cards: P06: Speed Merchant, P11: Cut Back Pass, P12: Incisive Run, S01: Reaction, S05: 1-touch Play, S14: Quick Turn + Attack/Defence Awareness Card: Balanced. This particular A/D Awareness Card is added because he liked to drop deeper and help out his defenders (I know, it sounds really strange for Brazilian winger from those days, but in Herrera's defensive system you had to have good discipline and do things you probably wouldn't normally do).

7. Added Growth type: Early/Lasting. Fixed Info, added Videos and Additional Links. Changed poster from blanka797 to me (blanka797 is still in credits). Added Brezza in credits.

not sure how or indeed if this player should be changed but here's an assessment of him from lodovico maradei, a soccer reporter from la gazzetta who covered la grande inter at the time - 'jair ... was not a great defender, but dropped deep because he was the kind of player who liked to run at people and needed space in front of him'

i haven't played this player with these stats - i'm sure if he's played deep enough in a formation it would represent him accurately enough - maybe more of a midfielder than a winger tho?
