Interesting young player born from AC Milan youth system, Merkel came to the limelights this season, when he collected 7 appearances with the first team, and showing what he's made of. He's a tireless midfielder, like s-cobar said, he runs a lot, sometimes too much, but not as fast as he would be tired. Since Cagliari's match he showed a very good technique and quality passing skills; furthermore he also had a good feeling with Cassano, but this is also because they're room mates (Alexander in a recent interview said that sometimes he can't understand what Cassano is saying, due to his frequent dialectal expressions )

About SA: I´d wait - also in the junior teams of the geman nationalteams he misse some easy shots. he isn`t cool in fron of the goal - so I´d wait how he`s doing on a higher level over a longer distance.

Stam: I prefer still a higher value but I know that Epsi would be a bit more conservative - so I could live with a value in the low 80s.

And Acc. maybe it could higher but you`ve to think about that the matches he played mostly a against slow CMs - I´d like to see him in duel against a real fast palyer to rate his speed stats - for the moment he don´t seems so fast to me on the first steps

STA seems on par with a lot of young AM's like Canales,Ganso,... on the database so I don't think it is overrated, eventhough he could be over them. He does much more running but that value seems right for now.

And since you've seen him in the junior teams, what do you think of his technique? I was surprised at some of the balls he was able to trap.

I think STA could come down to 80. he usually runs out of gas in the second half pretty early.
Also Canales and Ganso have been starters much longer than Merkel in their career.

I would go lower on DEF, he tracks back ok but he doesnt take up good positions or tackle that well as yet. Maybe 47 - 50

SPA SPS can be reveresed. What I do like about Merkel is his ability to play quick crisp passes - unfortunately right now his accuracy isnt the best, that will improve in time.

TEC could also come down to 80 - 81 as it puts him too close to more accomplished mids for the limited play he has shown so far.

TW could go up in my opinon and he could get Free Roaming or Box to Box instead of One Touch pass.

you know what...for the milan recent midfield standards...he runs quite enough. but he tires and he's often tidy and a bit confusional with first touchs and first touch passes. at times he simply wrongs totally . i would decrease TEC too.

Me too...His tec is not that good...I remember he had problem at first touch and ended up falling .
Not consistent with first touch.....His DA might be a lil sloppy ?
Im in for tec decrease..Looks like he curl the ball quite good....would'nt mind having him at 75..Sometime he take the corner. The rest i'm not sure
Box to box and a free roamer ? Any thought ?

nice set for a 19 years old but it isnt SA a bit harsh???, i mean gattuso is not in pair whit these guy even he have 19 years. i repeat, 69 very very harsh... wow i cant believe he is whit 69 SA even he often misses shots he is not THAT bad.

The WFA and WFF are shockin me. He can use both foot well. Look at his goal vs Bari, he used his left foot (preferred foot is right). Remember Verdi's stats? his WFA is 8 and his WFF is 7. Merkel's should be 7 and 7. And about his SA. yeah, he rarely scores, but his shots are always on-target, how about 73?

mmh, don't know him well but the Italian press praised his aerial abilities when I read about him the first time, so the heading values seem a bit low. Is he, in fact poor when it comes to heading or was the press right?^^
