why's his technique so low? He's always had a decent 1st touch better than most right backs.

I don't think he deserves a middle shooting star. He's got a good hard shot but that should be reflected with a higher shot power rating rather than granting him with the middle shooting star.

I'd say shot power 84

and his first touch is rather good.

Does middle-shooting alter the computer A.I. to have more attempts at long-range shots with the player rather than improving shooting stats?

He's not a long range shooter from what i've seen rescently. I was at the Liverpool Villa game in the Anfield Road end and some players were taking some shots from the edge of the area, although it was probably just in the area by the time they connected with the lay off. Ashley Young was scoring top corner, bang, bang, bang. The first five shots that Gardner took rolled lazily wide, about 3/4 feet wide of the left post. He started to improve after about 6 attempts, but then he was just side footing it weakly straight down the middle.

Then that must have just been a bad day for him. Gardner really does have a great shot on him.

Attack: 70 -> 73 He's getting his eye in on attacking moves.
Agility: 75 -> 78 No reason needed. He's just not that stiff.
Free Kick Accuracy: 82 -> 81
Technique: 74-> 75-76 I'd say his touch is about average.

Care to explain to me how? Especially when they've got in their ranks the player who usurped his role in the U-21 side.

He is a stable English player with a bright future and a lot of potential. Also he is a very versatile player.
Petrov is over 30 now and Gardner could easily have been his replacement, given some time to develop.

Bloody hell, not half!
He's always impressed me when he played for Villa. Never really cemented a regular place in the side but always did a job whenever he was called upon and went about everything in a really impressive manner. Not an amazing player, but he got the job done. Efficient is probably the word I'd use. Scored some great goals along the way too! Will take a look at some ladders in the coming days to try get him up to scratch, some discussion would be good too!
