Pedro MENDES

Pedro Mendes. A Fratton favourite. Why? Because it was partly him who saved Portsmouth from relegation in 2005/2006. His goals kept Portsmouth in the top flight and two seasons latter they have there best season for 53 years. So what is so special about him? Well like I've mentioned already he can score goals, long range goals. He is great at scoring from distance and has scored many spectacular goals. Pedro is very much a central player and you will rarely see him out wide unless he is covering for a team mate. He links up with his team mates very well, rarely gives the ball away and is a great passer. Mendes can set up attacks with his accurate and well weighted through balls. He is also decent from set pieces. He is not bad technically and has a good first touch. You will rarely see him miss control the ball and is quite calm under pressure. Pedro also tries hard, is quite determined and rarely gives in. However, he isn't the tallest or the strongest in the premier league but he can hold his own. He also isn't very quick or good at heading.

OUTSIDE*

and WFF: 5

he tends to use the outside of his boot to shoot he is good on both feet but sometimes uses the outside and i'd say he warrants it

Make it optional, he is not a regular at that.
And WFF should be 6, he's really comfortable with his left foot, he even used it to shoot often..

Do any regular SPL watchers think his mentality should go up? To an 84 possibly? His work-rate is quite impressive and rarely gives in.

I do. I think his stamina rating could also go up 1/2 pts.

I suggested a minor overhaul in the old message board, as the guy has been absolutely class for Rangers ever since he's arrived. 84 Mentality for sure, and don't you think there's more than raw power to his shots? Maybe a slight increase to his SA?

I don't think he's that much close to the likes or Ronny/Rochemback/Carlos Martins TBH.. but the SA suggestion seems pretty much spot on.
What's your opinion on the stamina suggestion?

I think his short pass accuracy should be raised to 83 and short pass speed to 84. He can play some nice incisive passes.

Pedro is the ball playing, game controlling player Celtic lack, and has been one of the outstanding players in the SPL this year.

As we all know, Pedro came to many peoples attentions after moving to Tottenham and having the controversioal goal disallowed against Man Utd when the ball clearly crossed the line.

After his time at Tottenham he moved south to Fratton Park and to Portsmouth and became a hero with the Pompey fans scoring numerous classic goals from the edge of the box and helped Pompey stay up.

His next move saw him move north to the SPL to mount Rangers challenge to Celtics crown, He has only scored 2 goals for Rangers but one of them was an absolute stunner against Celtic at Parkhead in the early season victory. This was 2 weeks after receving a Man of the Man award on his debut against Hearts.

A very talented midfielder, like to sit deep and control the play, using his gifted passing skills to control the play, has showed a fighting and winning mentality for Rangers keeping them going, very dangerous when found at the edge of the box, he has good vision and a smart footballer, doesn't waste the ball very much, and is strong enough to fight in the centre of the park

I can only see him getting better for Rangers at 30 years old in his position he could have another good 4/5 seasons in him.

Very good update Paddy, I'd only boost his response slightly as he's shown some improvement in this particular section. He now seems much more aware of what happens around him than he used to be at Porto or Portsmouth and he has played DMF for Portugal and doing superbly well. All the rest seems pretty good but I would personally not rate him that far from Meireles or Xavi's 84.

I'd probably not go higher than an 83, but I'd like to have him on an 82 for now as it'll fit into the ladder better.
