Ibrahim Afellay

The young PSV playmaker Ibrahim Afellay. Afellay debuted aged 17 for PSV in 2004, quickly becoming a regular for the topside the following 2 years. 2005-2006 proved to be the youngsters' breakthrough due to the injury-struggles of Vayrynen and Beasley. Afellay also made his Champions League debut against Schalke 04 in that season.

After the departures of Van Bommel and Vogel, Afellay quickly grew out as a regular in the PSV midfield along with Timmy Simons; playing 23 Eredivisie matches and scoring two times. It was also the first season one of Afellay's weaknesses showed though, as the playmaker suffered from several little niggling injuries. His injury tolerance didn't improve much in the following years but his abilities steadily grew, now making him one of the best players in our league.

Onto the stats. Afellay is very offensive and rarely if ever tracks back. If he does track back though, he usually causes a foul because of his rash challenges and non-existent sliding abilities. He's had a lot of luck so far, because plenty of red card offences were not punished. Afellay is very quick from the go and can outpace a lot of Eredivisie players in the first few yards. He's also extremely agile, skipping past challenges with relative ease; if not he will be probably fall down injured. He's also a regular diver, afraid of getting challenged and picking up an injury. Ibrahim has impressive dribbling ability and can pick out a really good pass. His short is very hard but inaccurate, he often misses shots and overall isn't very productive goal-wise.

not much to be done really, apart from RES 75/76 max and low 70's MENT with TW 75 max IMO.

Well these values look like pretty harsh changes to me. When I look at the ladder in Spain, he will be put on values way below average for these stats. If there is indeed a new standard, then values like you suggest should be applied to all players.

Resp can go down a bit, but 75/76 looks really low to me since the bare minimum resp in Spain for his positions is 73. 79 should be ok.
A low 70s Ment value you suggest is pretty uncommon for a player of his positions. 77 is about average in Spain so that seems good.
I don't think he's that selfish to deserve a TW of max 75. I think he looks pretty well for teammates that are in better positions than him, but of course he does try his own actions from time to time since he has the abilities for that. 79 should be ok for him.

Considering the new Att standard it should go up to at least a 79/80.
Agility could be even higher. I think he's very agile and a higher number might suit him better.
LPS 79. It's a little bit too low now.
We should also look at his SA and ST. He hasn't scored that much of course, but his values are a bit below average.
And lastly he gives pretty good curling in his balls. 78/79 should be good.

I don't see why being below the average Is an argument to rate Afellay.

The proccess Is not instant, can't expect to have all players rated in a brand different way at once. It'll be applied to all players.

cale's suggestions looks fine to me, we need to adapt some players to the new standards but this doesn't justify if we need to be harsh or not.
I also like him on a better ATT value and a lower TS, the lower TS it's the same case as Messi, he can run insanely, true, but he doesn't do it enough to warrant this high number. Default 81 talks for itself, but IMO he can deserve 83 perfectly (at least is what I'm using).
About SA/ST, not sure, default SA 80 looks high but I feel he can deserve something better, like to see him with Dutchland to be sure. Curl 79 it's ok to me.

It might be also harsh if we rated him based on Euro's. He has just came back from a very long-term injury, still need time to return to his form.

Fiddy is right there. We aren't talking about those updates viewing him now, we're talking what he deserves before the injury, for what he showed, aplying the new standards. Nothing out of this world.

He played remarkably well today after such a long time of injury. Could prove himself to become important this tournament. :D

He was great yeah. I feel his agility is impressive for a 1.80 tall person. Maybe worth more then his current number.

Some recovery. He's doing really well with the NT (as always), and I'm glad that what I said was wrong (Again! :| )

yap , he is impressive overall these last 2 games , agree about SA , higher value much needed , not just because of last 2 games , but overall , he's not shooting much , but when he shoots , most of the times he's on target ...

Well, in the Dutch league one of his main problems was that he rarely ever scored. Imagine that van Bommel was a more regular goalscorer then Afellay (even though Ibi gets in goalscoring positions way more often).

His talent is wasted in Barcelona, should move to another club for a regular place and more playing time

his talent is not wasted in barcelona ,injuries slowed him down , he said he will not leave barcelona and so be it .
If he doesn't get that many chances in first half of the season , there is always winter transfer window to change club but i really doubt it

It's a great Player , and when he comes in Game, it is often decisive ! I hope he can show his talent and earns his place in Barca. he has the means for :)

For SA I think it should be Higher that 73 :/ 78 or 79 for Sa he often shot from a long distance and often he make a goal :) and curling is low , he make good centers and long balls are often accurate :) I deserves 83 For Curling . And for finish I think that he has a good tech , I deserves 87 or 88 .
