- One of the better goalkeepers of the 90's, Gianluca Pagliuca is in fact still playing today, albeit he's just a free agent. He currently holds the record for most Serie A appearances for a goalkeeper, ahead of Dino Zoff, and was one of Inter's greatest keepers. He didn't have much of an international career; he unfortunately emerged as a talent the same time as Angelo Peruzzi and Francesco Toldo. An interesting aspect about him, is that if it weren't for him getting injured, Buffon may not have proved himself on an international level. Any who, let's talk about his characteristics. Firstly, he has got lightning reflexes. He could perform some fantastic saves and react so quickly to shots. Another thing you'll notice about him is his consistency; he performed well week-in, week-out in the Serie A, even when he was playing for Sampdoria, Bologna and Ascoli. He was possibly the most reliable goalkeeper around in the 90's. He also had the ability to make impossible saves; he could twist and contour his body to make a save, similar to the current Buffon or Helton. That said, his leap wasn't very good. Like his countryman Ballotta, he has a habit of only going down low for saves, scarcely leaping high into the air to get it.
