Highly rated young central or holding midfielder, Toulalan has won 11 caps for France since making his international debut in 2006. He was a member of the French under-21 national team that reached the semi-finals in the 2006 UEFA European U-21 Championship. He has become a regular fixture in the French national squad and is regarded as the eventual successor of Claude Makelele. He plays club football for French Ligue 1 side Lyon where he has played a key role in the midfield over the last two seasons. Toulalan is a reliable performer with a high work rate and good range of passing.
