This is Carles Puyol, a word-class defender and the loyal captain of Barca. One of the most hardworking defenders ever, he gives 100% in all his performances. Gifted with great strengh and amazing speed he can eliminate even the quickest strikers. He is also a potent threat when he gets up in attack and he can also play as an aggressive side back to support the flanks. I know the stats look like the defaults but KONAMI did ok with him and I also expect a discussion here

If Spain does not have these players like Puyol, who were our sign of identity back in the days of pure combative spirit, fight to exhaustion warriors etc...I think we won't stand a chance in future tournaments. There Is no player like Puyol on sight, and that really worries me.

Well, some youth players show something, also if they grow in a competitive team, fighting against big teams, some of them will mature and develop a strong character, as Puyol has on the field, but IMHO we don't see any Puyol in Spain in some time.

He's getting fitness, I don't think he will recover his great TS and ACC, but his DEF and RES are shinning lately.

This guy's a freak of nature. Did anyone see that run he made around the 25th min against Santos? That run was like a 83.. after all the injuries and ageing, he still manages to recover pace. Though ACC wise he's not the same (not surprising).

I think he should be rated with his previous value of defense. 88 is not enough.
89 suits better to him.
I don't want to suggest 90, but his defensive colocation is superb now. He deserves clearly more than a 88. I had been underestimating all this time this aspect of his game. After his endless injury (he said he thought about retiring from football) , he's getting fitness and showing an inmense defensive quality. He literally stop all Madrid with amazing positioning in the clásico, playing with a risky defensive line of three mans.
I suggest raising his defense to his previous value of 89.

I think defenders like Puyol should be in ornages TBH. There is few in the world that can defend like him, even at this age, and even less who can tackle like him.

Im upgrading to 89. Leaving the debate open. As for me, I agree with an orange.

Now, I think he deserves orange number in defense too. He is a master with an advanced defensive line. Every time positioned in the correct place. If he has a good day, he can stop the opposite team's attack by positioning. He has without doubts better positioning than years before. He lost, narurally, some points in physical attributes with the years, but, with the experience, he gained positioning and mastery to defend in every situation. Thanks to that, he still keeps an incredible level of play.
I'm thinking even in 91. But, at the moment, I suggest a deserved 90 value.

It's very strange that I discuss in a forum of a team of great level but Puyol is the best Spanish CB I have seen.
He deserves 90-91 in Defence. He has an extraordinary positioning and always chooses the better option.
