For many reasons, an extremelly weird signing for them. Under their coach, Pambos Christodoulou, they almost never went after players from the Greek Superleague, let alone Greek players, but they were busy signing mostly Portuguese, Angolan, Brazilian, Spanish and Ivorian players, mostly from other Cypriot clubs, from top Angolan clubs and especially Benfica de Luanda and from the low Divisions of Portugal and Brazil. It was with such a mixture of players that they won the Cypriot League in 2011-12 after 44 years in coach Christodoulou's first spell at the club, and now in his second spell at the club, he will try to repeat his achievement again with a similar mixture of players, but signing Georgiades, just shortly after releasing one of his new signings, Angolan-Portuguese Forward Hugo Firmino, was a huge surprise for obvious reasons.
Those reasons doesn't have to do only with AEL Limassol, but Georgiades also, who after his unsuccessful spell at big club
PAOK FC, he is surprisingly offered a route back to a club which wants to challenge for silverware, maybe undeservedly given that he was not exactly impressive in recent Seasons at
Veroia FC, after leaving PAOK. He still looks far-off the exciting youngster who was ready to impress in the Greek National Team all those years ago, but I like his old-fashioned style as a speedy Winger and I want him to succeed there.
He has been impressive for AEL Limassol so far this Season, and I am glad to see him returning to his great form from the past, and finally reaching his potential after many years of under-performing.
For AEL he has been playing mainly as a Right-Winger this Season, but also sometimes as a Left-Winger, as well, but never played up-front or as Second-Striker, despite they had some issues in the Striker's position.
His Technical Stats seem to be a bit better than what he is currently given, as he showed better Dribbling, and certainly better Crossing and Set-Piece Taking than this. In fact, he is one of AEL's primary Set-Piece takers, and his Passing is no bad, either, being one of their main creators, having a considerable number of assists to his name, as well.
However, I wouldn't describe him as a player who should have the Playing-Style of the "Darting-Run Card"
, as he isn't much of a runner mainly without, but also with, the ball down the wings, like Stathis Aloneftis for example. In my opinion, he is mostly a player who is described better by the "Mazing-Run Card"
, if not the "Incisive-Run Card"
, also, as his game-style is mainly not running that much without the ball, especially having little contribution at defending(really surprisingly given AEL's tenacious approach to defending by pressing really high), and when he receives the ball, he likes a lot to Cut-Inside, go on a little "mazing-run", by beating two or three defenders with nice dribbling and agility, before sending a good cross into the box or even a shot.
Physically speaking, he seems a bit heavier and stronger than this(many sites have him on 67 kg), and certainly much stronger than the other main Winger of AEL, Mesca. While Mesca usually loses his balance when being challenged by opponents when he tries to dribble, Georgiadis can actually resist much more challenges, and stay on his feet to continue his dribbling run.
