The young PSV playmaker Ibrahim Afellay. Afellay debuted aged 17 for PSV in 2004, quickly becoming a regular for the topside the following 2 years. 2005-2006 proved to be the youngsters' breakthrough due to the injury-struggles of Vayrynen and Beasley. Afellay also made his Champions League debut against Schalke 04 in that season.
After the departures of Van Bommel and Vogel, Afellay quickly grew out as a regular in the PSV midfield along with Timmy Simons; playing 23 Eredivisie matches and scoring two times. It was also the first season one of Afellay's weaknesses showed though, as the playmaker suffered from several little niggling injuries. His injury tolerance didn't improve much in the following years but his abilities steadily grew, now making him one of the best players in our league.
Onto the stats. Afellay is very offensive and rarely if ever tracks back. If he does track back though, he usually causes a foul because of his rash challenges and non-existent sliding abilities. He's had a lot of luck so far, because plenty of red card offences were not punished. Afellay is very quick from the go and can outpace a lot of Eredivisie players in the first few yards. He's also extremely agile, skipping past challenges with relative ease; if not he will be probably fall down injured. He's also a regular diver, afraid of getting challenged and picking up an injury. Ibrahim has impressive dribbling ability and can pick out a really good pass. His short is very hard but inaccurate, he often misses shots and overall isn't very productive goal-wise.
