PLAYER INFO
One of Sevilla's best players ever. Wanted by Real Madrid or Espanyol, he decided to go to Sevilla in 1943 in what proved to be a marvelous choice, his transfer fee was the most expensive for Sevilla until then (280.000 pesetas), but he made up for the team's monetary loss and scored 20 goals that season, 14 in la Liga and 6 in Copa del Rey, a rather high number for a winger in those years, specially a small one like him, in days of physicall football.
He is Sevilla's top scorer, with 182 goals in Primera Division, being the only Sevilla's Pichichi ever, scoring 29 goals in the 54-55 season.
Arza was well known for his shocking speed, his sharp skills on the right flank and his crosses, coming from that area, wich helped players such as López, Pepillo, or Raimundo score the exact amount of goals that made them end the season in the first places of the more than complicated Liga.
The two next seasons (44-46) he scored 27 goals and was proclaimed Champion with his team in 45-46, the best year in the team's history. Also, it was in his days that the team went to Europe Cup for the first time, in 57-58.
The Golden Boy retired from proffesional football in 1960, playing for Almería, but his loyalty belonged to the team that turned his career so glorious, the same team that in 1965 made him a special tribute game in wich Sevilla´s veterans faced Barça and won by 4-3. He was recently chosen Sevilla's first Leyend Number.
Enjoy!
