Jack Wilshere

Jack Wilshere is an amazing English talent. In February 2008, he made his debut for Arsenal Reserves against Reading, and scored Arsenal's only goal of the match. In April he made his home debut, against Derby County Reserves, coming off the bench to assist Rhys Murphy. Against a West Ham United side, he set up the first goal for Portuguese striker Rui Fonte and was the scorer of the second goal, a curler that went into the top corner. He then played in the Atalanta Cup along with the club's other Under-16 players where they won the tournament and Wilshere winning player of the tournament.

Wilshere is clearly a very quick player with a lower top speed. The kid is lightning quick for 2-3 steps but then just peters out, unable to shift into a higher gear. To give him an 82 TS is frankly ridiculous. The people rating players are very much confusing ACC and TS resulting in both being wrong.

He is probably fairly close to a 75-77 TS along with a 86-87 ACC. Combine that with his fairly high AGI and it should result in a player whose movements reflect the real life player.

In general I agree with Pedala's suggestions though I also think Wilshere deserves a boost in TEC to 86. A main feature of his play is how quickly he is able to bring the ball under control, he is really exceptional for a player of such a young age.

Technique needs to go up. Thats his strongest point of the game. 86 will a good value.

Please lower Jack's TS. It's clearly not indicative of his abilities, because he prefers to control the ball and quickly accelerate if he needs to find the next pass.

I agree with some of pedala's suggestions. Watching a lot of games with him his tackling and defending is one thing that stands out. For someone so small he defends pretty well. You can see him hassling dribblers and making some decent tackles even though sometimes badly miss timed. I have more that I can say but will get to it later.

He deserves a little more defense and the position of CMF. I've seen him play as a means of defense in recent games and it does pretty well.

Could one of the mods do something about Wilshere's TS? There have been a number of people who have acknowledged that it should not be this high. Something around 76 would reflect the player much better.

Also mods, can we start a larger update based upon pedala's stats? People commenting here have agreed that his technical abilities are quite a bit better than the current stats.

@the sloth: though I liked your view about TS/ACC ratio on short players, I can't agree with seeing Wilshere under Fábregas. I even would agree, if U ask me, with a 80 there, putting him under Pjanic, Coutinho and Canales, but I really don't think he's so slow that he should be under 80's. Anyways, I believe Kev is doing a new set about Wilshere, so I would say the best thing is wait for this .

Yes, I do think he has a lower TS than Cesc.

His ACC masks this and makes him look "faster" in most situations but in a situation where there is a longer run, Wilshere tops out really quickly and just can't go any faster. ACC is what most people notice as I have found that in game situations, players rarely come close to hitting top speed. Overall, I think this site rates most players too high in TS and it makes the game play far too fast when compared to the real world. If you watch the computer control Wilshere you'll find that he just moves around too fast.

Pedala- I've watched the video a number of times and taken some time to think about the footage.

While I haven't seen every game Wilshere has played in, the run that pedala is pointing out doesn't seem to be one that Wilshere makes very often. I would say that it could be replicated by Wilshere being in an orange or red condition with a speed in the mid-upper 70's. I don't think he looks like world class speed in the video. If he displayed this more often then I would consider a higher TS. Probably not what you wanted to hear.

Since we are discussing TS, I would be curious to hear your thoughts over in the Robert Huth post about the ESPN video I posted showing him running at full pelt.

Some Explanations:

*WHY I DROPPED BALANCE:
While I'm quite sure that Wilshere is a strong guy (taking in consideration his size), stronger than Canales and Coutinho, I always was unsure about his Weight/Height ratio. So, I found a new source saying he's taller and a bit heavier (don't know if uefa.com is a trustable site), as he sure is taller than 170 cm. With the new ratio on Weight/Height, I dropped his Balance by one point. Seems fair to me.

*TOP SPEED AND ACCELERATION RATIO:
Though I liked sloth points, I still think he can run as fast as a 80 suggests. A little slower than Canales and Coutinho, both guys with similar body structure. I do think the ratio supply well.

*PASSING SKILLS:
Probably one of his biggest assets, the speed/power he puts on his short passes is really interesting. Combined at a decent accuracy, makes him able to do some killer passes, along with *Passer. I would put him over Coutinho and Canales in all passing skills.

*TECHNIQUE:
Considering we have Hazard at 86, Pjanic at 86, Coutinho* at 86, Canales at 84, Dzagoev at 84, Douglas Costa at 84, I think something between 85~86 would be fair.

*TEAM WORK:
Canales at 79, Hazard at 80, Coutinho* at 81, Pjanic at 87. I do think he should be
somewhere between 83~85.

It's a START, so, probably some stats can be unfair. It's just an incentive to start the discussion on this thread .
