If you're talking about PES2012 that happens a lot to me too, I didn't notice it a few weeks ago when I tested weaker teams from Portugal and Holland but recently when playing with English clubs the defenders often are upfront in the midfield while the DM/CM stay behind. My guess would be that it could be a problem with the tactics, maybe support is too high so they swap positions. Looking at Barzagli's set apart from the values you said you tested another solution could be that his high Teamwork makes him go upfield so often.

bazagali does come out a good bit to intercept though. His style is really weird, maybe it's hard to tell when hes responding because of how fucken weird his legs look when he comes out. It's so bizzare how he looks when he runs that it distracts me in seeing what hes actually doing

yeah, totally agree, he's such a fast guy and athletic too for a CB but he's just simply and painfully slow and unagile in the starting few meters that it looks fuckin' hilarious to watch him trying to get a grip of himself :lol:

and yeah, i'm just having massive trouble replicating his style 100% correctly...i really think that Conte's got his finger in this one, i've seen him ordering him (and Giorgio) to act as somekind of DM's when the team is in possession of the ball, leaving only Bonucci as the last man in that weird 3-5-2 he's been employing lately, 'cause the amount of overlaps he's done this season in that formation is ridiculous, i've known him since his Palermo days and i've never ever seen him do that until he came under Conte's stick...

It certainly does, a high teamwork defender makes him protect his teammates back, that means if one of the CM or DM is surpassed, he is going to be there to intercept, no matters what resp he have. However i wasnt reffering to this, i meant in overall still, he came to intercept too much, like a response defender, which he isnt at all.

Atm it plays perfect to me, he does intercepts and goes out quite a bit, though i try intercepting a lot as my playing style needs it, thus it may be me that makes barzagli intercept, anyway as i said many times before, it plays good to me

i must be the only one who doesnt rate him lower than chiello in defence ? Barzagli is clearly more clean and composed than chiellini, but chiellini is incredibly succesful winning the ball, and also with that ultra low agility of barzagli he looses stability easier, i see him like 88-90 personally. It would also increase juve defensive unit solidity and we know they are virtually impassable lately 8-)

i think that we'll have more than enough material to evaluate after the Euro's this summer ;)
but, nonetheless, just like you said, they're different types of players, Giorgio is the destroyer, the gladiator while Barzagli is the cleaner and it's just normal that they're efficient in other parts of they're job just like you said, but i'd wait until the Euro's like i said...

Is he really that useless with his headers for being a CB?
Just a thought...
Not that he really impresses me in this aspect of the game anyway.

I really think a more basic value like 77 would be more realistic.

standardizing values is never a good idea...and i've already said it why he has such a value he's just not even decent at it he lacks accuracy it's just like "i'll jump and let the ball hit me in the head" rather than the other way around, never ever have i seen him using his head apart from clearances he never (even if he wants to) pass with his head it's horrible and misses the destination by a fair bit.

I'd like to re-adress this. I don't know exactly what he does, but he does come out to get balls quite a bit, it's done in a weird way.. I guess? I know the pervious 87 was too high, but I think the current value is too low. I'd say something like an 84 would be good.

well the truth is that when played in a 3-5-2, Conte prefers his CB's (Bonucci is the Sweeper/Libero) Chiellini and Barzagli to push forward and participate in the build up, and playing with a very very very high line pushes them quite forward which seemingly isn't Barzagli's natural and relaxed style of play which is quite evident when he's playing for Italy. This can be easily adjusted by adjusting the sliders in the tactics screen.

Don't you think he is better in response though? I mean you gave him an 87 for a reason.

Good point Cale but I'd still give him higher. 83/84 would be fair.
I really like Barzagli. A very intelligent defender, effective as well with his accurate tackling and great positional sense. Think his DEF should sit higher. Is his SPA really that good though?

@Rob

yeah, i gave it to him as i was initially testing him on my PS2 and it seemed to do the trick with the aggressive and forward defending, but when i tried the same set on the PC it seemed awkward and bad constantly leaving gaps at the back and playing too far up. then i messed a bit with the tactics screen and set a deep backline (which isn't Juve style this season) and it seemed better but it wasn't a real-life interpretation, then again going with the opposite (low RES + high backline and Bonucci at CWP) it worked better and i got the result which i've got on my PS2 just with a RES drop.

@Mike

an awesome defender, come to think of it, we got him for peanuts :D (500k). yes, his passing is good, not great, but good, he often tends to send balls similar to Hummels (those unbelievable strong and long ground balls) from time to time mostly going from the centre of the pitch towards the striker mainly through the right hand side going parallel with the right flank. (i know it sounds like a stupid and awkward explanation, but his passing is weird and what would suit it better than a weird explanation? :) )

500k? Wow, bargain of the season in the Serie A. Fair enough on the passing.

probably could take some points boost in his resp, though i honestly think 84 is a tad too high. What I most agree is higher defence, i have him on 89 for a while an it's way more like barzagli IMO, you can see he is so clean at everything he does, blocking passes, slide tackling, standing tackling, use of strenght, and whatever you'd like to add...he is clean at it. He is close to oranges, dont think he is quite there though, but i really like how he plays with 89, thoughts ?

for this example, i'd like to keep calm till the end of the EURO's, just like i said for Bonucci...
