Maybe I'm way off the mark here, but I actually thought he was considerably taller than this. When I say him the first time for Sunderland I remember thinking "Who is this guy out on the left? He's huge!" He just didn't look like what you'd expect from a conventional winger. It wasn't just that he was up against a relatively short fullback or anything, he just genuinely looked tall. Every source out there tells me otherwise though.

EDIT: I think it might be because he appears to have quite long legs in comparison to his body perhaps?

Could anyone change his nationality? He's from Northern Ireland not Ireland, thanx you! :)

Born in Northern Ireland however has chosen to represent the Republic of Ireland should he ever receive a call up. He actually pulled out of a Northern Ireland squad because of this ;)

what the fuck is traptanni thinking, how the hell does he not justify a call-up? LPA accuracy should be lower and LPS much higher

Can't believe how quickly he has adapted from Northern Irish football to top level football.

His national team case is ridicolous though, James is a perfect example of a gloryhunter.

Is is just me or should this guy have a higher mentality. Only seen him play a handful of times but the thing that stood out for me was his pretty impressive work ethic, he just never stops running. Maybe a value around 79/80.

He probably deserves a WFA of 6/7, and a WFF of 2.

I think this guy deserves a little update on his Ten ,high 70s would make sense,he is a very persistent player, also he seems a little faster than this,TS can go to 82 and Lpa to 78-79,he takes most WB set pieces and has decent delivery.

I don't like how how he's been rated for us.

First of all, his close control is not that neat at all. It is not crappy, but not good enough to warrant DA 85. He's like a 80-81, no more. In fact, there are two other aspects which make him a bit harder to face him on the ball: BB and DS.

Let me explain them in detail.

BB: He's obviously stronger and sturdier than BB 75. It is actually a huge asset of him, and he uses it a lot to stand pressure and opposition while on the ball. His dribbling style is quite similar to Memphis Depay when using BB on the ball to his favour. McClean is not a heavy player at all, but he's quite efficient for the use of his body frame while dribbling. BB/Physical Contact are more like 82-83 material. Body Control more like 78-79.

DS: Taking into account that TS 82 is spot on, his DS at 78 is massively underrated. He's capable of keeping a quite reasonable amount of pace on the ball. If he has enough space, his sprints on the ball show his ability to preserve some speed while dribbling. It is mostly decent close control or some punting forward, but DS is easily an 85. It has been like that since a long time. That goal he scored against Uruguay is a great example: He got rid of Coates easily mainly after a good TS/DS combo display, without an exceptional DA.

Shoot Power: That's one hard to rate on him. I'm sure I've seen shots of him worth of mid 80s SP values, but he doesn't perform them so often. It is probably higher than 80 overall, but I'm not sure to which extent.
