INFO (2009-2010 stats):

Quite easily the most improved goalkeeper of the season so far, Valdes is finally putting in performances which justify a place in the national team. But most importantly, Valdes is finally getting over the errors, the dreadful positioning, and, combined with his insane reflex saves, and great diving, he is now becoming a powerful presence in the Spanish league. A really class keeper, Victor Valdes.

***

Defence: The big improvement area. Valdes actually knows how to position himself now, and do it well.

Balance: Strongish for a goalie, but you can tell he's not that big...

Speed: Fast for a keeper, very fast. But not as fast as some, like Casillas.

Response: Oh yes. The big plus for Valdes, the difference between him and Casillas is minor here, and there is no difference between him and Cech in terms of reflex saves, only that...

GK Skills: He can't handle it as well. In fact, no-where near as well as Cech. Or Casillas. Or James ( ;) ). Valdes has strengthened here, but it's still not that great...

Aggression: YES!!!! He's finally learned not to rush off the line like an idiot!!! And a total idiot, for that matter... Much improved (last year I would have given him 70, such was his ridiculous tendency to fly off the line, even when the ball was at the other end...).

His response could go up to 93(with Kameni), he already had excepcional refelxes, but lacked some other qualities.

Other than that, good stats.

Update? I think that Victor Valdes is the best goalkeeper in the history of FC Barcelona...

valdes peak era should be only at 2005-2006. he was a winner without guardiola as coach and better defender

Disagree, and heavily, with both statements. Valdés improved dramatically with the years, but in any case I don't think he can be considered the best keeper of Barça's history, at all. Although I understand the younger fans may get that impression considering the years and years of shitty keepers they endured after Zubizarreta's leave (only Hesp, and maybe Bonano, were up to the expectations).

Korinov, I'm young, but I know very well the history of FC Barcelona. Ramallets, Zubizarreta, Urruti, Sadurní, Zamora, Platko ... I do not mean titles. Valdes is not recognized because he can not hold in the selection (Casillas is the best goalkeeper in the history of Spain). For me it is the best.
He deserves a big update and a decrease Condition, I think.

Few complete games, but many videos. Perhaps you can remember the final of the Champions League against AC Milan (4-0), great performance by Zubizarreta (irony). Or the Benfica (3-2) of Ramallets.
In '94 and '61.

Barcelona was just demolished in that 0-4 final. Are you actually implying Zubizarreta was to blame? If you're looking for someone to blame you should aim for two targets. First one, Cruyff, who received from Capello one of the most brutal and merciless tactical lessons in the history of football. Second one, the media AND the fans, who thought the match was already won before playing it. In any case to try to pin the blame on Zubizarreta just to support an argument of Valdés being better than him is ridiculous.

You can say Valdés is the best keeper of Barça you've seen. There would be nothing wrong with that. To say that he's the best keeper Barça has ever had, then defend that opinion saying that you've watched "a few matches" and "a lot of videos" from all the keepers who came before him... please, you're doing no favour to yourself.

And I've never been a fan of Zubizarreta, just if you're thinking otherwise. If he was Spain's first choice keeper for so long it was due to him being a friend of the national coach, not really thanks to his ability (which declined a lot in his late years).

No, do not blame him. Not that it was bad, or that play by decree in the selection. I stand by my position, if there was a survey Valdés would think first. You are wise, Korinov xD
