Cristi Tanase wasn't one of the big prospects when he 1st appeared at Fc Arges, Prepelita was. He has never been that decisive player in the Youth NT either when he was played as DM, Ropotan, Deac and Latovlevici were the biggest hot shots at that time. Tanase is a silent player who will not force himself into the spotlight despite recent rumors suggesting otherwise. Tanase was waiting for his chance and grabbed it when Fc Arges promoted into the 1st league where he suddenly became one of the most sought after players and even got his debut at the NT with the (in)famous no10. He made a great impact for the NT and scored right on his debut vs Austria.

me neither... there was just too much hype around him and when they labeled him as the new Mutu I knew this was going to be a disaster. There's only one Mutu and there's theoretically only one player that has similar skills to Mutu and that's Florin Costea of Uni Craiova

72 for attack is extremely generous for this guy.

long overdue update which is basicly a downgrade in most areas.

Tanase didn't look fit at all this season, isn't as combative anymore and seemingly lost a bit of pace too. He's not the dynamic midfielder he used to be at Arges which can be explained by his many injuries and the fact that Stoichita simply didn't know what to do with him. It'd be too early to consider him a flop but his 1st season at Steaua definately wasn't anything to get hyped up about and he'll surely never reach the heights of a Mutu as the press once claimed.

It's not all that gloomy though because I sincerly believe that Tanase is still the clearly most technical player and safest passer of Steaua.
